The free box works great as a boost of you turn the gain all the way down and goose the level. Especially with the 59 Bassman

This is now become my go to preset.

Not really specific to Dead but finding it works really well for both my neck and bridge pickup

I uploaded "Cats under the Stars." It's my attempt at Jerry's one octave below effect on Cats w/the basic Jerry clean amp stuff. It would work for Dupree's, Stranger, etc. I also put in a distortion since I often use it on Cats. Not perfect, but it's a start.

Cheers! :)

Picngrin,

Thanks for the new preset to work with, I just saved it to my amp and will try it out in a bit.

Picngrin,

I have to be honest with you when I first pulled up you preset I was a bit confused ( knowing what you were going for compared to what I was hearing )

Now I run an SSS configuration, and typically use either bridge or bridge/middle, I seldom use the neck or middle/neck combo.

Once I did switch it to the neck pup alone and adjusted the tone a bit, I saw exactly where you were going with this preset, I made a couple minor adjustments to taste and it does have the Stranger feel to it. So thanks for sharing that one, I will be using it a lot.

A bit OT,

For Dead fans I have to tell you if you have not yet seen the new Bobby documentary it's a must watch. It is currently only available through Netflix streaming ( came out on the 22nd of last month ) seen it several time now and really enjoyed it, think you guys will as well.

Another guy I would like you to check out is a YTuber named JDarks:

Lots of tabs for a load of songs can be found here: http://www.jdarks.com/GDTab.html

His Ytube channel can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCofkU2 ... 61tl23kXGg

He has an amazing setup but is a real down to earth head just wanting to share the music, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

BTW,
I hope to have at least 1 maybe 2 new presets ready by early next week. I will post them asap.

Music Never Stopped...

***EDIT***

Sorry I forgot to tell you the name of the Bobby documentary.

It's called: "The Other One: The long strange trip of Bob Weir"

Hey LazyLightning,

Glad you got it to sound right for you. Interesting that it the preset sounds better with the neck pup. I created it using the usual Jerry middle pup (custom shop 69) on my Strat into a buffer before the amp. I'll have to try it with the neck to see how that sounds. As a newbie to modeling amps, I guess there are nearly as many variables of guitars, pickups, etc. as there are with traditional amps. Maybe more...Plenty to learn here! I'm looking forward to your new stuff.

Big +1 on The Other One. A nice piece of filmmaking. And JDarks is wonderful, too. He can nail the Jerry stuff. His tabs can be a bit puzzling at times but I've learned a boatload from his site. I'd add checking out Rukind.com if people don't know about it yet. Plenty of very deep dives into equipment, technique, and the band, plus a good tab library.

Glad you enjoyed the film as I did.

You are correct about JDark's tabs, after a while I have found I have a better idea of where he is going. I typically use his tabs as a reference point if I find myself working on a specific riff, but no exactly clear where it starts to flow from. Overall though he is a great person & very giving to put all that stuff out for free ( like it should be )

I also recently got my hands on some Adamas graphite picks 2mm. I had seen Jerry mention them in several snippets and he really liked them, even got Phil to use them for a while as well. They were originally made by Ovation, but Dunlop has made a run on them made to original specs. Have to say they are really nice picks, just thought I would give you a heads up if you had not heard of them before.

I also use 3mm Big Stubbys and the JazzIII XL series, both of which I find very fine to play with. Of course I also have some .73 Tortex for those times I fell a bit nostalgic.

Talk soon!

Glad you enjoyed it as well!

My wife and I have watched a couple more times now, which started off a Dead video marathon the last couple weeks. Started with The Grateful Dead Movie, then Dead Ahead, Ticket to New Years, Truckin up to Buffalo, Closing of Winterland, The Egypt show I just got and we are now on the View from the vault series, plan to get that 72 Sunshin Daydream movie as well.

Still working on a couple of new presets will post asap.

After using it a bit more this afternoon, I realized how far off the mark this one is, so I am going to pull it until I get it closer to what I am shooting for.

Sorry guys!

Appreciate it, I do a lot of my preset work using headphones, which I realize now is not a good representation of the actual sound the speaker makes ( especially the subtle use of chorus, etc.. ) So I sounded decent until I tried it without the phones and instantly thought,,,,nope!

Anywho,

Looks like I will be unable to work on anything new or even play for that matter for at a minimum of 6-8 weeks and upwards of 10-12.

I broke my neck this past thur. so looks like I will be waiting to see what you guys can come up with while I am on this downtime.

Hope to hear from you folks soon,
Take Care!

Holy F'n shut Lazy!!!! Best wishes and please get better. I hope you have full & speedy recovery. Take it easy.

I have read on the Mustang section of the forum that people make duplicates of there patches, one for speaker and one for headphones.

I wish I could contribute more. I am a novice. I been trying to Learn play for just over a year. I tired other times in my life but with little success ( lack of focus, time support etc). But this go around I am sticking with it. I am lucky if I can devote a few hours a week so I try to focus on play/studying not "tone chasing." I also don't have the experience with amps guitars or affects to really take an honest shot.

Well best regards.

Thanks for the well wishes i8chillywilly, it's very much appreciated. Goes without saying it's been a stressful couple weeks and learning to do simple tasks I took for granted.

I understand where you are coming from. I actually started playing when I was about 12-13 and due to a severed tendon and nerve damage ( work injury ) I was forced to stop playing in the mid 90's. I just recently decided I wanted to get back into playing as being disabled I have A LOT of free time on my hands.

Chasing that perfect tone can become a practice in madness, trying to get it just perfect. I know with my current gear I will never come close to replicating either Jerry or Bob's tone, but I sure will try my best to get close. I will update in this thread once I get back to playing ( I am REALLY hopeful it isn't 12 weeks ) and we will go from there on presets, etc...

Take care!
