Hi folks,
I have now owned my Mustang II v2 aprox 6 months and have been more then pleased with it's performance. As a nearly lifelong Dead fan a large portion of my playing revolves around their music. I am not in a band, nor do I plan to be in one. I simply play for my own enjoyment.

Once I got into using the Fuse software and say what this amp could really due, I became even more impressed. You can get so many different sounds out of it with some patience and trial and error.

What I have been looking for is some presets that are Dead related, unfortunately though this is one area that is lacking in the community. I would love to find some like minded people together and tackle some of the variety of sounds that both Bobby & Jerry were using throughout the years. As you already know their "sound" as well as their repertoire of songs were in a constant state of growth and experimentation over the last 50 years.

I am currently working on a "wah" like effect that can be used for Estimated and easily adjusted for Shakedown. Then I would like to tackle some of their early through late 70's tones.

Of course it will be nearly impossible to replicate all they could achieve without their specific gear. etc...
I do believe that with the help of several others we could at least "try" to capture the feel.

I sincerely hope to hear from some others interested in this type of adventure!

It's funny you should mention that, one of the first sounds I tried to emulate was that solo sound from Shakedown street. Here is my (early) attempt:
Shakedown Street by Strings10927

You might also give these a try, other t-wah presets I've made:
Strings T-Wah 1 by Strings10927
Strings T-Wah 2 by Strings10927

As far as Jerry's other classic tones, I hope you can crack the code.

Here's one more based on the guitar solo from 'What I Am" by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians:

What I Am by Strings10927

This is the song it was based on (the lead kind of has a Jerry vibe):

Sorry for the late reply, my desktop died and just finally got a new one.

I will give those a try, appreciate the links and will let you know what I think.

I have a "rough" draft of the Estimated "wah", not sure how it will sound on your end.
I made it using my 60's CV Strat SSS and it's getting there using the bridge and middle with tone around 6-7. I believe by late 70's Jerry was using a Mutron envelope filter for the classic Shakedown/Estimated sound. That said without that setup I don't think it could be replicated 100%, but it is a very fun sound to work with if you can get close.

Here is my try at it ( again, very very rough draft ) so you may or may not like it. I would like some honest feedback on it though if you get a chance.

Now that I have my new computer I can get back to making new presets, we will see what we can come up with from here.

I have been looking for a non wah jerry sound. So far I am not even close or I would post it. The grateful dead had some pretty complicated rigs from what I have read.

I have a Mustang III v2.

I have downloaded strings patches. Great stuff.

Peace.

i8chillywilly,
I know exactly where you are coming from. The "wah" effect is very cool to play around with and try to replicate, but I am also VERY interested in replicating some of both Bob & Jerry's "clean" sounds. As both of you know ( being Deadheads ) it's not just replicating a specific sound, since one decade to another had some major changes.

As for the ones Strings posted, the "What I Am" preset seems to work best on my current setup. I know that having an SSS Strat, what I can hear on my end can and will be drastically different from what you guys are hearing.

I also tend to stick to the bridge/bridge-min/mid more then anything. Only on rare occasions do I turn on the neck pup.

I have not heard what you guys thought of my humble offering.

I working on a mid 70's Ramble tone, as well as trying to decode Bob's Minglewood tone of the same time frame.
Will let you know what I come up with and post a link if you want to try it out yourselves.

Take care!

i8chillywilly,

I understand being busy, no worries!

Thanks for the links, I had run across the rukind thread not to long ago myself.
That Shakedown amp youtube channel looks interesting, got it bookmarked for later viewing.

I am still working on a few decent mid 70's sounds, ie. Eyes, Sugaree, Sugar Mag. but they are not quite there yet. I will post them as soon as I publish them on the fuse site.

Thanks a lot!
I appreciate the feedback very much, especially constructive criticism, to see where I might be able to improve.

If you can't figure out how to upload your presets, feel free to message me and I can walk you through it. :)

Very glad to see that someone is trying to use the Mustang to get some Jerry tones. I just got this amp and like what I'm hearing here and what I've been able to do so far. (The Fuse software is frustrating and I'm bummed that it's not possible have two "stomps" on at the same time, but there must be work-arounds.) I'm going to try to use a basic Jerry preset (Twin with the bass nearly off) and work up a preset for the phase 100 sound (fast for Candyman, slow for Dear Prudence, etc.) and a octave (Stranger, Cats Under the Stars). I think these effects are there as I hear some of what is needed in the factory presets, but they are hard to isolate. Maybe someone will beat me to this!

Anyone try to get a clean Jerry with the pre amp? I was thinking that it might be possible to duplicate the Twin preamp>Mac>JBL holy grail, but maybe that's wishful thinking.

Picngrin,

Great to have someone else working on this as well. I have about a dozen I am working on, would probably get better progress if I focused on just one at a time.

I had not thought about the limit to a single stomp, but now you have mentioned it I wonder what could be achieved if there was the availability to do such a thing.

As with the other folks, please share anything you come up with!
