Hello,

I was wondering if any of you use an external pedal board, and if so what amp/cabinet settings you had configured in Fuse and thought played best with things like the DS1, TS, and EHX BM Pi or other effects? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

[Edit]: Almost forgot, I'm using a Fender Mustang II as a home practice amp playing mostly rock.

Here are the pedals I’ve tried:

Tone Bender fuzz – Worked ok but wasn’t mine and had to give it back.
Fuzz Face mini – Could not get this to work well with my amp without setting up a preset EQ’d specifically for this pedal. Loved it but wasn’t practical for me as I have a Mustang II. Would like to try a Lunar Module or something with a tone knob.
Big Muff Pi (Clone)-didn’t work well at all with any presets I tried. I might have been able to make it work but gave up. Was just too boomy. Maybe I’m just not a Big Muff guy.
TS Clone-Worked Great but decided i didn't need it because I actually liked the Greenbox stomp just as much.

ProCo Rat2 – LOVE this pedal. I exchanged the Fuzz Face for this. They were out of the You Dirty Rat but I still love this pedal. Doesn’t seem to give a Rat’s $@! what preset you put it with.
Joyo Ultimate Drive- yeah it’s a cheap chinese OCD ripoff but you know what? This pedal is the best 30 bucks I’ve ever spent. It pushes any preset a little to give it more grit or I can use it for a little higher gain and its just as happy and so is the amp.

I still want to find Fuzz Face type pedal that works well but for now I’m happy with my modest setup. I like having the knobs right in front of me so I’m sure I’ll be buying some more dirty pedals.

I’d bet the DS1 would work swell with your mustang.

Awesome info, thank you for the reply sir!

The issue I've been having is when I use my TS, DS1 or BM Pi I'm getting a lot of either muddy or very, very high gain or terrible breakup. I've spent several hours in Fuse trying everything from "the magic 6" to tweaking just the standard amps and cabs stripping it of all other effects.

I'll get pretty close but I didn't know if there was a magic bullet I was just missing.

The amp models I typically use with pedals are:

65 Deluxe
65 Princeton
65 Twin

Those seem to take very kindly to the Rat and the Joyo

The 59 Bassman patch I use is already a bit smelly and I just use it for a bluesy sound so I typically only hit it with the Joyo to goose it a bit.

If you click on my fuse link in my sig, there is an “80s Princeton Chorus” preset that I use. Also the “Deluxe Thick and Clean” preset. Both of those take pedals well for me.

At the time I made those, I had CS69 Pickups, I’ve since gotten a Seymour Duncan SSL5 for the bridge so have had to tweak a bit but for the most part I still use them.

Good luck.

You’re welcome

If things are getting muddy and flabby, it could be that you have the output level of the pedals too high. Best not to go above Unity or too much above unity.

This is why Boosters that are designed to push tubes aren’t the best match for this amp.

That makes sense. The one that was causing the most fuss was the Big Muff, which I wanted for both Smashing Pumpkins/Silversun Pickups and some epic Gilmour-esque solos, and that thing is all output.

I've been making some headway in Fuse with a '57 Deluxe setup, added a compressor and some reverb and managed to chuck the Big Muff at it with very satisfying results. A very warm, creamy tone without mud.

Once I tweak it a bit more I'll have to upload it, I'd love some constructive criticism or advice.
