Yes, I see that one of the presets is called 1968 Wah. I want to add wah to some presets I've edited in FUSE and saved back to the pedal. Yes, I can add wah under stompboxes. But when I try to use the volume/expression pedal on the Mustang to control the wah effect, it goes from the low nasal beginning wah sound to the high end of the wah sound in a split second with no transition from the low wah to the high. I've tried setting the heel frequency and the toe frequency and get nowhere. On the video I watched about the Mustang Floor, one segment showed a guy playing what I think of as a "normal" wah sound and that's all I want. But I don't want to have to use the 1968 Wah preset just to get a wah sound. I want to be able add wah as you would any other pedal effect to any preset and have it function like a regular wah pedal. Could someone please walk me though how to get there? Thanks to anyone in advance.

Hi sterling3145,

Thanks for your inquiry. Please have a look at the document linked below. This provides a step by step on setting up a basic Wah effect on your Fender® Mustang™ Floor using Fender FUSE™. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

Thanks, Alan. That info did the trick. I was able to add wah to about five of my presets and set it so that it's not ON when the preset is first accessed, but can be turned on by clicking the pedal down, which is what I wanted. One thing I immediately noticed, though, is that the presets without the wah have one volume (good and strong) and when the wah is activated the overall volume is lower. Probably due to the frequency of the wah. So that's one issue. The other is that I still had the same issue of the wah sweeping ultra fast when the pedal is pushed down. I tried all kinds of tweaking and never could get it to slowly move through the frequencies as the pedal is pushed further down. It's like going from zero (low freq) to 100 (high freq) in the first few millimeters and after that it's all high freq for the rest of the pedal travel. But I guess it's better than no wah at all.

Hi sterling3145,

You are very welcome. So, in regard to the relative volume issue, I would suggest that you check the channel Volume on the Presets where you are using the Wah vs. the channel Volume on the Presets where you are not using the Wah. You may be able to level things out this way.

In regard to the sweeping speed behavior, do you have the High Q on or off? You may want to check this out and see if the High Q being on makes a difference. Please let me know how it goes.

Best Regards,

Alan

Sorry, Alan, but I think you misunderstood my first issue about volume. What I'm saying is, let's say I'm using a preset that has wah available but not turned ON. I'm playing that one preset and is has a certain volume. Then, still in that one preset, when I click in the wah, it seems that the volume is reduced when the wah is ON and functioning. My guess was that this is caused by the fact that I am simply hearing only a select bunch of frequencies coming from the wah rather than the full spectrum of frequencies that are there when the wah is out. On the wah stomp box effect, I think I have the level there all the way up. So to make it work, I will probably have to make volume adjustments on the guitar.

Alan,
Here's something else I have noticed: you know how I've been saying it seems the wah goes from the heel down frequency to the toe down frequency in a zip with very little of the frequencies in between those two ever being heard? Well I have also noticed that when I have the pedal in volume mode, in heel down it is OFF and then the slightest movement toward the toe, the volume is full ON with no swelling of volume. It stays at full ON for the remainder of the pedal's travel. Think that I could have a defective part in the expression/volume pedal causing both these issues? Or is there a setting I have missed somewhere?

Hi sterling3145,

Thanks for your posts and detailed information. So, to your first point, I would suggest that you try adjusting the "Mix" parameter in the Wah effect in order to make the relative volume more balanced from Wah in to Wah bypassed. That should help.

In regard to the Volume mode behavior, I would suggest that you try calibrating the pedal. Please see the text below to complete the calibration process. And please let me know how it goes and if I can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

The EXP-1 expression pedal calibration procedure is as follows:

1. Press and hold UTIL while powering on, UTIL LED should light up for 1 second.
2. Move the expression pedal between the desired heel and toe endpoints to set the range.
3. Turn the encoder knob to the next Preset to complete the process.

In addition to the information Alan has provided here, I just wanted to add my experience. I found at first I was unable to get a 'regular wah' sound like a Crybaby or Vox wah. What ended up working for me was playing with the 'TOE' and 'HEEL' settings. I had to set 'TOE' to less than 100% and 'HEEL' to more than 0%. It takes a little experimentation to find the sweet spot for both settings. Give it a try and let us know if it helps.

Hi strings10927,

Thanks, as always for your input and participation. We appreciate it. And this is a good point. With the EXP-1, since it is a dual function pedal, there is inevitably some "wiggle room" with regard to Heel/Toe positions and calibration.

Best Regards,

Alan

Fender TSL,

Thank you, thank you! That did it. I calibrated the pedal exactly as you said to and immediately the volume function began to work properly. Then I tried the wah and now it is behaving as it should as well. I also took your advice and went into the wah effect and adjusted the mix. I had it set to max, meaning all wah. Now the knob is at about two o'clock, meaning mostly wah but some of the straight preset guitar signal is there too, which fattens up the sound and, to my ears, makes it sound more like a wah pedal in front of an amp. Now I'm a very happy guy and plan to spend lots of time setting up and renaming presets and loading them in my preferred order. The Mustang Floor is a great product and Fender staff aren't too shabby either. Thanks.
