Hi Everyone
I'm new here. I'm a 68 year old Disabled Vietnam Vet so please bare with me. I am not the greatest at reading directions, etc but will work at it. I just started playing guitar again and having a great time with it and all these amazing new toys. I just picked up a used G-Dec 30 off Ebay. It seems in great shape. It didn't come with a foot switch or any user guide, etc. I downloaded the User Guide off Fender Website. It keeps talking about the G-Dec 3. Is there a difference between the G-Dec 3 and the G-Dec 30?
I just picked up the Tom Petty G-Dec song book. I can't find out where to plug in the SD Card. I see the Midi plug in in the rear. Do I need to purchase a set up for the SD Cards, etc.
Also I can't seem to find where I can purchase the foot switch or a price on them.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I played pretty good when I was younger and am actually getting my callouses back. Getting retired and older still can be fun with all the improvements available on the internet today. I signed up to Guitar Tricks. Wish they had this kind of stuff when I was a kid:)

Hi Warzone PTSD,
Welcome to the Forum. The GDec 30 and GDec 3 -30 are different. The Gdec 30 doesn't have a SD card slot, unfortunately.
The GDec 30 manual is here http://support.fender.com/manuals/guita ... manual.pdf
Like you, I started playing again after a long layoff - marriage, job, kids - and it took a while before the calluses came back, but the pain was worth it!
I bought a GDec 3-30 and love it, especially for recording.
Cheers,
Alex

Wow that is a real bummer. I wish I had done more research. In other words I can't use this amp for loops and grooves? Is there a way to modify or patch?
A buddy of mine in the Steve Miller Band suggested thAt this would be a good practice amp for me just getting back into playing and all. I just took it for granted that the G-Tec was the G-tec. The 3 and the 30 through me for a loop. Not the kind of loops I was hoping for:(
Looks like I will be selling this on ebay and shopping for the G-Tec 3.
I bet there are tons of people that have made this same mistake.

Hi Don...
You'd be better off with a GDec 3-30, for sure, but the GDec 30 does have some good features. There are drum tracks and midi files on board and a looper (for up to 28s according to the manual).
I doubt that it could be modified or patched to get to the GDec 3 capabilities, though.
You've probably seen that there is a section on this forum for original GDec users...there's undoubtedly good information there. CRGuitarman was an early user of the GDec amps and had good info IIRC.
How are the calluses? Mine came back surprisingly quickly and another bonus to playing again is that it has helped a bit with my arthritis. The downside to having professional grade calluses that I've noticed is that capacitance effect touch systems don't work as easily for me...I have to use my right hand, less callused fingers to make my fancy dimmer switch work!
cheers,
Alex

Yeah it looks like I am going to be selling the G-Dec 30 and picking up the 3.
Now that is funny about the calluses. My wife always says she likes it rough. At my age I need all the help I can get

Good one, Don. My wife draws the line at long toenails
I'm about the same age as you and I agree that with computers, the internet and really useful and affordable electronics, life is a lot more interesting than when we were young.
Good luck with finding a GDec 3-30. Go for the 30 rather than the 15. I've had both, but the 30 has a bigger speaker plus a tweeter and line outs that you can use for recording.

Yeah I decided to go for the G-Dec 3-30. There are a few on EBay that I am bidding on. I will sell the G-Dec 30 I just picked up for $175 back on EBay. I am sure there are people out there that only want its capability at a great price.
I'll start playing with this one for the interim.
I'm putting together a part time band of other Disabled Vets like myself to put out an album. It is a huge Niche Market and much of the proceeds will go to Veterans Causes. I got wounded in the rump a number of times so I am writing songs like "Shot In the Butt Blues" and a bunch of others :P
I write books and build websites to help veterans of all wars. Talk about a lot of material to write songs about.

Here is an interesting email I got from Kenny Lee Lewis a good friend from the Steve Miller Band. I was mentioning to Kenny that I could probably get a great deal on the G-Dec 3-15 and then plug it through a vintage Fender VibroVerb I have.

This from Kenny:
"Had I heard of the G-Dec 3 I probably would have recommended it. Just been out of the small consumer loop since 2008.
If there is a line out on the G Dec 3 15 watt, you could use another guitar cable to connect the line out to the instrument input of your Vibroverb and set it to flat (straight 5s) . Would probably sound great".
I'm still going to shoot for the G-Dec 3-30 and will toy with stacking it through the VibroVerb. What the hell. Might come up with a cool sound

Sounds very good...let me know when an album comes out. 8)
There is no line out on the GDec3-15, you'd have to use the headphone o/p jack. The 3-30 is what you want.
Best,
Alex

Here is a good one. I have been trying to work with the G-Dec 30 while I'm waiting on a bid I have placed on a G-Dec 3-30.
My guitar works through the amp but I can't get any drums or loops to play when I hit start.
In other words all it is right now is an amp.
I could be doing something wrong but I keep trying to get something other than my guitar to play.
I turn the amp on and it shows its default. Shouldn't I just be able to hit start and the default starts? I have tried a number of things and get nothing.
Any ideas?
I have been working on websites since the late 1980's and I still stumble and fumble whenever something digital gets in front of me.
Like Joe Walsh sings "I'm and Analog Man".
Thanks
Don

The G-DEC 30 manual on pp 6&7 has some info. on the Play mode and how to playback songs. I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not familiar with the GDec 30.
I know what you mean about analog and digital, though
Good luck!
Alex
ps...you could try asking the Fender experts TSL@Fender.com
They are always helpful
