Hi Guys

Just used Fuse for the first time with my Mustang III (V2) and wow! :)

Is it possible to import a wah preset and add it to say the nice intheblues Clapton tremolux preset - or will it overwrite his FX (Overdrive). I'd like to be able to take a single effect like a wah and slap it onto any preset I have on my amp and keep the existing FX?

Thanks
Hayz

can do this with the MOD and DLY/REV FX Knobs by using the Save FX button in fuse but not with Stomps and i think Wah is in the Stomp category.

One workaround I’ve been experimenting with is to dupe the Fuse file for a preset and open it in text editor, then open a preset you have a stomp you want to carry over in text edit that has the stomp set the way you like it and paste it over the section that contains the stomp info. Once you save the text and open the preset it should work. I’ve been putzing around with this at work. Why would I want to do this you ask? Well I can sit here at my desk and tweak my backup file and FX knob setups without having the amp in front of me and then just do a restore.

Wish you could save stomp settings though… would come in handy.

That Tremolux preset is awesome. I have 4 presets on my mustang based on it. Can’t wait til he does a Marshall LOL

thanks for your reply! If I use the "save FX button" this will overwrite the FX already on the tremolux preset though (Overdrive stomp)....I would like to keep current FX, such as stomp and add a mod on top. The wah is also in Mod so that isn't an issue, but the problem is it deletes the stomp!

Is there a way to keep the existing FX and add to them?

no this saves them to the Knobs so you can add those saved FX on the fly to any preset. Probably good to copy the preset file just in case though. Anytime i'm going to do some major tweaking i do a backup of the entire amp. I found its quicker than saving individual presets and you can restore in seconds if you don't like your results or goof something up.

Hi Captain - thanks for your swift reply! :)

I must be missing something (sorry bit of a noob with fuse). I'm importing a t-wah preset from the site and trying to add just the t-wah to the tremolux patch and when I import just the fx on the save menu it deletes the stomp/mod and only has the FX that the t-wah preset uses..

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, I like the idea of backing up the whole amp, how do you do this?

Thanks again - Hayz

You’re welcome… I’m not too busy at work today obviously.

Yes, if you want to add T-Wah to your existing Tremelux preset you’ll have to just change the Stomp from OD to T-Wah in fuse which will load it in with the default T-Wah values, then set manually. Only other way I know of is the Text Edit option which will work, I’ve tested it but you’ll definitely want to make copies of the presets as its getting a little deep. Then if the preset opens in fuse, it will save to your amp.

To do a backup, go to the Utilities menu in fuse with the amp connected. This will make an entire backup of you amp as it exists at the time of the backup. To restore, go the Utilities menu and choose restore. Useful also to do a factory restore and do a backup so you can save any individual factory presets you like.

Ok for poops and giggles and for anyone that is interested, I worked out how to copy paste an existing stomp with parameters intact to another preset … here’s how.

Open the preset you want to steel the existing stomp from in Text Edit (Mac) or Notepad (Windows) and locate the section of text as in the below example and copy this to your clipboard.

in the below example, this is the Fuzz Stomp I swapped in to the Tremolux preset to create my ‘On an Island Fuzz’ preset.

Quote:
<FX>
<Stompbox ID="1">
<Module ID="26" POS="3" BypassState="1">
<Param ControlIndex="0">24064</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="1">40704</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="2">0</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="3">39680</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="4">15872</Param>
</Module>
</Stompbox>

Next, open the preset you wish to load this stomp to into Text Edit or Notepad and highlight the same section and paste over it with the contents of your clip board.

In this case, the Intheblues OD stomp looks like this:

Quote:
<Stompbox ID="1">
<Module ID="60" POS="0" BypassState="0">
<Param ControlIndex="0">33024</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="1">23040</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="2">33024</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="3">33024</Param>
<Param ControlIndex="4">33024</Param>
</Module>
</Stompbox>

Once you’ve pasted the stomp over, save the document and open the preset. You will now see the preset loaded in fuse with the new stomp and parameters intact. Can also do this with amplifiers and modulation as well I suppose.

Is it getting too geeky and unnecessary? Probably so but somebody might find some use for doing this crap. I’ve certainly found it useful to edit my backup files so I can just take my laptop home and do a restore.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to captainc for his detailed information here. We also wanted to add the you can use the Import Preset function in Fender® FUSE™ to import an effect setting to a Preset. Please see the step by step instructions below. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Import Effects to an Existing Preset in Fender® FUSE™
1. With Fender FUSE open, navigate to Main Menu\File. (Make sure that you have the Preset you want to Import from available, either in Documents\Fender\FUSE\Presets or a location of your choice)
2. Select Import Preset from File.
3. Select the Preset you would like to Import the effect from and select the FX Settings from the radio button list.
4. Then select OK to Import the selected effect to the current Preset.

Wow thanks Fender TSL Great info.

I didn’t know you could do that. Looks like it imports all the FX and not just the stomp. Is there a way to import only specific effects? Either way, this is a game changer for me. Makes managing presets way easier.

Thanks again.

Hi captainc,

Thanks to you as well for your participation. And yes, you are correct. The only limitation is that it will import all effects from the Preset being used as the source for the FX import. I'm glad that this was useful.

Best Regards,

hi Fender TSL and CaptainC

Re CaptainC's comments on editing the preset files..

I'm half into doing a little file reordering tool.. so I'm getting a bit carried away and figured I can have it do some preset editing..

But I'm just wondering how the amp behaves if it gets 'bad preset' input.
I want to know if a faulty preset could damage the amp?
(I figure if I ensure all values are between 0 and the upperlimit of 64,000 or whatever, it should be ok)
Thanks!

Hi markcc

just curious what OS you're creating the reordering tool/preset edit tool for.

I just got done doing some hefty text editing to a backup folder. Reordered a bunch of presets, copied OD stomps from some to others and also grabbed modulation FX from various presets I liked and pasted them into the .fuse files for the FX knobs. Main reason for doing this is to just see if I could but also to try and get the FX Knobs all programmed in one restore rather than doing the ‘Save FX’ thing two dozen times. I’ll know tonight when I get home if my backup file works.

I’d sure be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Cheers

Hey there Captainc
Well I was going to do this as a web page so you'd need to upload the presets, and after the changes are made, download the presets.
Obviously upload/download is a pain but a web page is easy for me to do quickly

There are now ways to upload multiple files to web servers in one go, but seems not yet a good way to download multiples - so with a hundred presets I'd need to make them into a zip file for the download - or email them back to user.

So now I'm wondering about using Director or Flash to make a standalone program - but a long time since I've used those - (Flash can still be made so it would run on Macs, just not as an 'app').
Not too sure right now!

Sounds cool.

look forward to giving it a whirl

my restore was mostly a success. All the presets i reordered and moved stomps around in text edit restored without issue. The FX Knob settings i messed with didn't take. Not a huge deal, I was basically just doing this to broaden my understanding of the product. I'll probably mess with it some more at work during the week. I'm sure it can be done. I probably just left something behind with the existing FX knob settings in the backup file.
