Friends,

I made the move from a Mustang III to a v2, mainly for the stereo out feature. I was able to trade in the older amp and get the newer one for $200 from my local dealer.

I would not say yet I am disappointed in the difference in the sound - I have more work to do before I get to that point. But I am noticing differences for sure. It does seem brighter - as others have mentioned. Not sure if this might be the inherent difference in a speaker that has rocked for a few dozen hours vs. a new one or what.

One preset I dug on the v1 was Neil Deluxe, also present on the v2. It sounds a bit different though on v2, not as deep and meaty. In examining the files (with an free XP program called ExamDiff) I notice that the stock file has been changed on nearly every "Param ControlIndex=" value in the file. This is also the case for another file I like: Beauty Clean.

I guess my point is that if you are not getting 'the sound' you had before it might be that you are actually using an altered preset with the same name from the v1 on v2 but it is not the same. So maybe try the old one if you have it backed up.

Here are the presets that came loaded on my v1 before I altered them - I zipped them up and stuck them on a server -> http://www.meepi.org/files/2012v1Presets.zip

I would be interested to know why they were changed from v1 to v2 - is it a technical parameter of the amp? What would that be? Or just Fender folks tweaking them for the latest release?

thanks,

Willie, Maine, USA

I've just gone from MII v1 to MIII v2 - so a double step upgrade.
I've noticed the same as you and at this very moment I'm moving a few of my old MII presets to the new amp.. once I figure what the hell they each are, as of course on an MII you never see the preset name on the amp.

Anyway I'm also looking at creating an online 'preset reordering tool' just for the hell of it. So I dug through the actual preset 'fuse' files - they are just xml - a simple type of data structure, a bit like an html web page - and every parameter in there directly relates to a knob setting..
But I don't know .. if they tweaked the DSP engine I guess they would need to adjust the presets a little.
I keep turning BIAS down to manage the extra treble - that way I still have useful range on the amp treble knob.

Hi Guys,

There are differences between the Fender® Mustang™ V.1 and V.2 product Presets. Please see the included link for a list of the Presets for each. And let us know if we can assist further.
