Hey everyone,

This is my first post here. I have done some research, actually, a lot of research, but I wanted to come directly to the Fender forums to get some answers.

I just got a Fender Mustang V2. I play dark, ambient type music, actually doing more horror themed type music. The Fender Fuse software has lots of good options for someone looking to do this stuff.

I want to recording into my PC. It's not a great PC (4gb, 500gb memory, intel i3 processor), but it does what it needs to. Now, in the past, I also used an interface of sorts. When recording with Fender Fuse via Mustang, should I record through Audacity (if possible), or get an external Microphone.

Because it's ambient music, I really want to get a USB microphone and mic up my amp and any future amplifiers for recording. Ambient sound adds to that effect I'm searching for, and let's me sample many other sounds.

Would having my Fender Mustang via USB AND a USB Microphone ruin anything if I was using Audacity as my main source of recording?

Thanks everyone,
Mike

I am a big fan of recording via the USB as I do not need to worry about room acoustics or ambient noise. I prefer Ableton which came bundled with the amp, but some other guitarists swear by Audacity.

I use Audacity via the USB to get ideas down.
But I also have a Zoom multitracker with built in mics and I get a much better sound that way. (Those are good quality mics but not pro quality by a long way)

Makes zero difference which daw you use (reaper/Ableton/audacity etc.)
But recording by microphone gives a much nicer sound.
If you use a decent USB mic you should be better off - personally I'd go for an audio interface plus a separate mic. Seems a lot of the USB mics are built as iPhone add ons so may not be that great for audio.

Surely you can notice straightaway that recording via the Mustang USB is a less rich and rounded sound than the one you just played and heard via speaker?

Of course if you live somehwere where planes go over a lot or sirens go blaring past then direct USB will make you happier (though the odd synchronicitous siren may be just right for that soundscape..!)
