I am considering purchasing a Mustang I or II V2. Does the functionality of the FUSE software vary with the level (I, II, III, IV etc) of the mustang amp model? I ask because, it seems like the actual sound processing is happening at the amp level, so if I am using FUSE would I still be able to use all the effects and different types of amps and band tracks, with an entry level model OR would I have more possibilities with the higher end models?

Thanks

Here's the deal:

You've got it right, mostly...the magic happens in the amplifier, and aside from power levels and (real-world) speaker differences all of the Mustangs can produce the same kinds of sounds. FUSE will function the same way from one model to the next.

However...and this is a biggie...

If you ever want to alter a preset without FUSE, you are sunk if you don't have a III or better. And, even with the higher models, some FUSE functinality is difficult to find and some are not accessible from the amp's controls at all.

Also...and this is big if you expect to perform...the footswitch capabilities on less than a III are similarly unfunctional...you can only swap between two presets. On the larger units, you can scan through the whole onboard library in various ways.

I think if you are a performer, a I or II may present some logistical issues.

I have a II, I don't perform very often, I have some external pedals I also use with the Mustang, and a dedicated laptop running FUSE and I can deal with all that.

HTH.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think I will performing anytime soon. I am a beginner but an expert in software stuff. I see myself, mostly, geeking with the FUSE functionality (advanced FUSE user in that sense) but basic guitarist.

Would I still be able to play different band tracks and perhaps make some tweaks? Or is that not possible i.e. no alteration to the presets (band tracks?) without a III or higher model of the amp?

Also the issue of being heard.
Even for practice, the Mustang I is a tad underpowered compared to an unamplified drum set.

Clarification...You can do anything on any amp model via FUSE software on a connected computer. You can use any presets stored on the amp without FUSE (I & II let you store 24, III-V let you store 100). You can make some changes without FUSE, it is just more difficult.

If you haven't checked them out in person...and you can...you should.
