Anybody Else Find This Effect To Be Useless On The Mustang Amps ? I Have Messed Around With It A Lil, But I Can't Seem To Find Any Scenario Where This Effect Could Be Useful, Wish They Would Have Given Us Something Useful In Place Of It

For guitar yes

I am tempted however to plug in a mic and see if it can do a Dalek voice LOL

hahaha, Nice,. I wonder what they put the ring modulator on the amp for though, it sounds like crap no matter how you dial it in, I haven't tried plugging my SM58 in yet though, maybe I'll give that a go as well hahaha., Still seems like they could have given us a useful guitar effect instead, Can't complain too much I like the amp, just think the ring modulator is stupid and unnecessary

for me, it's pretty useless. But someone out there knows how to get good things out of it.

I don't believe it, I have never heard a ring modulator sound pleasing to the ears, even with synthesizers I think ring modulation sounds like crap, maybe it's just me, I'm not a fan of 8 bit chip type sounds

I can't think of anyone memorable that has used a ring modulator on a guitar but, Deep Purple's Jon Lord has used one on his B3 setup since early on in DP's inception. In fact, it is very much a part of that signature sound and the reason why a lot of people loading up a B3 VSTi just don't understand why they can't get that sound out of it.

Here's an interview where JL mentions what ring modulator he uses which BTW are not made any more (Gibson Maestro):

http://www.thehighwaystar.com/interviews/lord/jl19890100.html

Just goes to show how getting creative with things that most would pass of as useless can make a huge impact.

That said, I have never found them useful on guitar either.

yeah a ring modulator on an organ doesn't sound good either, my opinion there is no musical use for a ring modulator,

I agree that ring modulation (and most synthesized effects for that matter) are ugly. I have to say I created a single preset that uses the ring modulator as part of an acoustic guitar emulator patch (which the mustangs lack). with a VERY subtle dose of ring modulator the metallic sound of the acoustic guitar can be emulated (ring modulator creates one overtone above the note and another below, the one below can be dialed out via tonestack, and the other gives the metallic resonance)

but yeah, I could really live without it or the other weird ones, as the stechofilt (or something called like that), and the reverse delay

I guess the reason they are there is because they were part of the Cybertwin firmware and they just did copy/paste of the whole thing and recompiled for the new platform.

the step filter is actually decent if you turn the level down and slow down the rate of the step changes, basically if used subtly it can be useful, same goes for reverse delay, there is a way to make it sound good, as with most delays on the mustang turning the level to about one or 2 brings out the best in the delay, with the reverse delay the best way to use it in my opinion is to adjust it to where you are getting the normal sound of the guitar (not in reverse) and have the reverse delay sit behind that in the mix ever so slightly but mostly you get the forward sound of the guitar just a slight reverse delay as an after effect,

Hey y'all, I tried playing with it to come up with something useful, what do you think? Sounds like something Gilmour would use, think Animals album.
