I purchased a preowned Mustang II today. I downloaded Fuse v.2.6.0 and updated the amp firmware. The PC connects to the amp. I wanted to backup the amp presets. Went to Utilities/backup...I named the backup...the progress bar went past halfway and the software then shut down. I tried this numerous times (used different backup names) with the same results. My PC is running Windows 7, 64 bit. Is this a known issue...any suggestions? I want to configure the amp to my taste but don't want to start without a backup to save old and new settings. Please help.

Hi Hutch,
Welcome to the forum!
I have a GDec 30, not a Mustang II, but the Fuse software is the same (I believe) for each.
Were you backing up the presets only or presets and band tracks? The latter takes longer of course, and can lead to hangups I think. I say this not because of thorough testing in my laboratory, but I have noticed that when Fuse hangs on me, it is usually the result of a lengthy series of changes on my part, altering a preset for half an hour or more, searching for just the perfect tone for a particular recording....way too much time on my hands!
Also, the latest version of Fuse is 2.61 and can be found here (perhaps on a different page of the discussion, plus recommendations as to how to install it)

When I first started using my GDec a couple of years ago, it would sometimes freeze while backing up all of the presets. I finally updated the software (still running 2.30 because I'm too lazy to upgrade  ) and bought a newer and faster laptop (Win7, 64 bit - same as you) and this improved things a lot. I just backed up all my presets via Fuse before I started typing this and no glitches.
I usually found that when Fuse would hang, closing the program and turning off the amp then restarting both would often help (amp first, Fuse second...don't know if this is crucial, but I like it 8) ).
Hope this helps; there are many others on this Forum who have a lot more experience than I and who are willing to share.
Good Luck,
Alex

Alex... thanks for the welcome and suggestions. When I have initiated the backup I have not made any changes to the amp settings although I am sure the previous owner has. I wanted to save what was on the amp prior to resetting to factory presets. I may I may give the reset a try although it doesn't make sense that Fuse can't do the simple backup since its just a copy/write function. My PC is fast and has plenty of juice for this application. There is nothing in the media library under presets or band tracks.

Keep in mind when Fuse crashes Win 7 comes back with a box that says "Fuse has stopped working" and windows is trying to find cause...etc. It is not a freeze its a shutdown.

I'll report back my findings. Again, many thanks.

Hi Hutch,
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.....when I bought my faster laptop a couple of years back, it came loaded with Win7 and as I added new software and inevitably ran into problems, I'd get the same message "whatever" has stopped working and "Windows is trying to find a solution". I thought, fantastic (or far out as we used to say, long, long ago) this is great; however Windows seldom, if ever, found a solution, so I'd hunt around on various Forums (Fora?) and search Google using more specific terminology until I either came across a solution that worked, or gave up in frustration, using helpful phrases like "stupid software" or "morons" :)
As a further digression, I checked my GDec by turning it into a giant memory stick and reading the memory components via windows explorer, but couldn't see where the presets were stored (Alan...HELP!!!). As a bonus, when I exited, first closing the GDec via windows, the Fuse software went into it's 'updating' mode and I finally had to shut it down. No data was lost, I've had this happen before so I'm used to it, thankfully.
That said, I really do like my GDec amp and Fuse software, despite it's occasional hiccups.
Eagerly awaiting your findings,
Alex

Alex...I actually spoke with Alan and he asked for a Fuse file from my pc for the amp. My particular problem as I described it was a new one to his group and they are going to take a look at it. I'll report back with any news.
