Hi Everyone,

I got a mustang II a couple of months ago and I'm really happy with it, sound and functionalities are just great. The only problem with this amp is just... Fuse.

I just wanted to learn a new piece so I decided to download a preset to start with, adapt it to my taste and push it to the amp, this should only take a couple of minutes, most of them in adapting the preset to get the right tune. Practically it took me more than one hour. A couple of freezes when launching Fuse, a couple of searches not reacting to eventually get a list of presets, mouse freezing constantly, most of the presets were "corrupted" when trying to download them, retrying multiple times to eventually getting the "corrupted" preset working. Again several mouse freezes when adapting the preset, then finding out how the hell I have to save the preset to the amp (I'm not using Fuse everyday but only 2/3 times a month), I need a big large visible button "Save to amp").

I'm seriously considering reselling it an buying something else just because I find that Fuse is just unusable.

Don't ask to re-install, clean-up, restart, the exact version of Silverlight I'm using, my OS version, ... I know there are some work arounds and I lost too much time on the forums. I face these issues since I got this amp and it really starts to get on my nerves, originally I wanted to spend time in playing guitar.

Anyone sharing the frustration?

Tom

If I could get it to actually LOAD i'd probably be happy with it,

but as it stands ... it sucks. no offence Fender,. but get some new people onto your software design team. seriously, I've seen 3 man independent software houses make more reliable software

I like it, haven't had any bad behaviors but agree some of the aspects like preset management (svaing to amp, etc) could be a little easier/clearer, but I've enjoyed success with it (Mac OS).

I use it. Rarely play my amp, in my room, without it.

I enjoy FUSE a lot. Without FUSE I would think that the Mustang was just another modelling amp.

The threadopener seems to have made the same experiences like me. I really love the Mustangs, and I like the idea, the concept of Fuse. But the actuall software is a horrible thing for at least 30 % of mustang-owners. If it works - fine, if not ...
Can you imagine how many people there are who never touched it again after the first stuck screens or even bluescreens and frozen OS? (happens if Fuse stucks in fullscreen mode) Unfortunatly only very few people find the way to this forum, think of all the people of not-english speaking countrys, of people still unused to the internet.

I got two different Laptops with a no longer working fuse installation (yes, the newest!). I'm glad that I archieved the current Presets of my 3 Mustangs (I, II and Mini) in a spreadsheet file and can carry the printouts around with me. Not able any more to load or delete stompboxes. But I can live (and play;) better with this state than with the permanent anger and stress about the is-it-working-or-not Fuse. And I won't spent more hours and days anymore for "fixes", downloads, deinstallations, installations, bug searching and workarounds. I just want to make music. I'm trying to see the positive: Like this I'm concentrating more on one model, just changing gain on the amp and volume and tone on my guitar. The oldfashioned way. Ok, I still got an old tower-PC at home with a running fuse installation and the Mustangs are not so heavy...

I know that those of you who are lucky to have a running installation on accidently fitting hardware can not understand my point. But for the small tasks this software was designed for, I expect a simple application which simply does its job, also on my computers.
- It shall display the internal state of the connected amp reading messages form the USB port.
- It shall allow me to change the amps settings in sending messages
- It shall load and save those settings in a standard XML-Files which represents the "presets".
Thats all. I dont need the online-capability because I can download presets on easier ways. And all the rest is done inside the mustangs hard- and firmware. Heaven be thanked!

BTW: A very little thing but imho it shows a lot. Do you know any other application which doesnt accept an [enter] on the keyboard as confirmation in a Save-As dialog (here: Effects), but lets you fumble with your finger on the touchpad to reach a small OK-Button? In rehearsal or gig ;)

I like Fuse but I haven't had the problems Frente has had.
The only problem I have is freezing knobs - but I usually only fire it up for specific fine tuning, then I'm done.

He's totally right in his comments though.
Missing enter key options and tabbing across selecters - that's so basic - I used to build interactive CD stuff what .. 12 years ago.. and high on the list of priorities was make it behave like a normal program.
That's why it's also pretty terrible that after all these years/ months they still don't have drag and drop preset ordering.
The "save preset" process is bad too - just give us two buttons in view at all times - save on amp /save on PC.
My private belief is that Fender sub contract Fuse development...
(I should have got an MIII I know)

The thing with software is that when it doesn't work, one has no idea what the magic fix is .. and it can take many attempts/ hours to fix and lead to high levels of stress.
I'm a luddite too and hate it when software gets a complete new appearance (for instance) - phone texting? bah..
- and debugging why something doesn't work is a nightmare that saps the spirit when all you want to do is play guitar

I spent a lot of time trying different DSP amps before deciding on the Mustang. Great amp right out of the box, but the ability to fine tune the presets at will from my laptop makes it that much more versitile.

Fuse is a little twonky. I've seen some strange things: Effects re-size or disappear, Screen freezes, Items not displaying in the Media Library. A shut down and restart takes care of it. Sure, there are problems, but for the most part it does what it's supposed to. And don't forget: IT'S FREE! If I was paying to use it, I'd be annoyed, but as a free tool, I can't complain.

My compliment to Fender and the Fuse team. It's not perfect, but it's getting there. Next release will be even closer.

Fender is a big company and very customer oriented. I don't know who got the fuse software design gig, but it doesn't smell good. So now, Fender is forced to make the best of an old bad decision. That would be picking whoever to design the software. I like and appreciate fuse, but just about every criticism I have read has been valid. They all stem from poor design at the kernel level of this software. I do not expect any mea culpas on this one. None are needed as long as the issues get resolved.

The eye candy part of the software works for me. It is a pleasant visual environment to work in.

Oh yeah, I really like the amp, but this is a fuse thread.

agreed - it makes it more fun

but BigSteve it's not free - Fender are selling a package - and sure, it will push the competitors to try and match it - seems to be taking them all a long time though!

I have never had any real problems with Fuse, I just installed the latest version tonight, and it ran well first try. I have a LOT to learn about it, but I think for a free software package, it's pretty damn good !! :D

I'd be OK with it if it really worked properly and bug-free on the G-DEC, which it still doesn't with the current bugfix beta, and the crew here didn't jack G-DEC owners around about it without just admitting that as long as they have it working right on the Mustang, how it works on the discontinued the G-DEC simply doesn't matter any more and they aren't going to waste any more time on it.

That's the bottom line and why I'll never buy another Fender amp, and regret buying the G-Dec.

Hi Guys,

We appreciate your input and comments here, both the positive and negative. Within this thread, there are a number of different issues being spoken about. Some relate to more current bugs/issues we have worked on and others refering to older versions of the software, etc.

We are very much interested in what our customers are experiencing with Fender FUSE and as with any software, are continually working to improve the application and its features. As many of you may be aware, we continue to ask our users to offer us feature ideas and feedback. And while it may appear that we are not aware of some of this feedback, I can personally assure you all that we are definitely listening and do value your opinions as the end users.

There are a number of "moving parts" for us here regarding the development of Fender FUSE, and we continually strive to improve this and to make it and all products we manufacture the best they can be. Thanks very much for your time and comments. We will continue to "grow" Fender FUSE and the valuable, thoughtful input on the Fender Lounge Forums definitely plays an important part in that development. And as was stated here, if we can assist any of you with issues that you are currently experiencing, please contact us directly. In most cases, with the needed information provided and a "healthy" operating system, issues with Fender FUSE can be corrected.

Best Regards,

Alan Willey
