Just tried installing FUSE and got a message saying:

"The installation failed.
The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

The installation of Silverlight worked, as did the installation of Mono.
The failure seems to have occurred in the installation of FUSE.

I checked the Microsoft site and they had a newer version of Silverlight, so I loaded that, restarted the broswer and confirmed it is the latest. Then I tried FUSE again a few more times and each time, it stopped with the message above.

I'm on a MacBook Pro running 10.8.2.
The FUSE software was downloaded from the main FUSE page today.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Barry

Hi Barry,

You say you've downloaded Fuse "from the main page". That could mean a couple of different places (Fender's Fuse site or this forum), so I'd recommend the latest version available if you haven't got it already:

Fender FUSE 2.6.1.35 Mac:
http://wpc.077d.edgecastcdn.net/00077D/fender/support/software/fender_software/fender_fuse/mac/FenderFUSE_FULL_2.6.1.35.dmg

This is a newer version than what's available on fuse.fender.com.

Thank you for your reply.
I had downloaded the app from fuse.fender.com.

Just tried it with the link you've provided but got exactly the same results.
Hoping Fender Tech Support responds (either here or to my direct email) at the end of the weekend.

Hi Barry,

Sorry it didn't help!

Chances are something is conflicting with the install, and one way to help determine this is to boot up in Safe Mode, and run the installer again.

If you're not familiar, it's quite simple to do: Restart your computer, and when you hear the startup chime, immediately press and hold the Shift key. Once you see the gray Apple logo, release the Shift key. That's it. Now try the installer again.

If it installs correctly, you can then restart normally.

Good luck!

Thank you. I'm grateful for the suggestion.
Just tried it though and the results remain the same.

Hope I ultimately get a successful install. I'd suspect the installer itself (or themselves, since I tried the one on the fuse.fender.com page and the one in the link you provided) but I imagine other Mac users have been able to install the application. (Mountain Lion users, am I correct? Anyone able to install FUSE on a Mac running 10.8.2?)
It will be interesting to see exactly what is causing the issue.

Thank you again.

Hmm...OK, still not working. My next suggestion would be to create a new user account on your Mac, and then install Fuse while in that account.

And to answer your question, yes, I installed the latest version of Fuse on my laptop (17" MacBook Pro) and I'm running 10.8.2. So you're right, it can be done.

Just need to solve this so you can, too!

Wow! Did you find yourself having to create a new user account just to install the software on your machine? In my view, this does not speak well of the software. Sounds like the programming of the installer needs some work.

If I'm going to try a new account (and I have reservations), it may have to wait until I get some mission critical work done. This is my main work machine. (I suppose I could always delete any new account I create.)

Thank you for your much appreciated help with this.

Barry

Barry,

No, I did not have to create a new user account. I only suggest it as that's something to resort to when working through troubleshooting steps.

My machine, like yours, is my main workhorse. Creating a new user account is, IMO, a trivial issue. And absolutely, like you said, it's easy enough to delete.

Bear in mind, the majority of individuals installing this software don't run into issues. However, as we don't live in a perfect world... ;)

Believe me, I would love to see some changes implemented in Fuse, and have noted them in the suggestion thread.

Hi ARX320,

I've tried the beta version and I've tried creating a new admin-level account and installing from there. Same "installation failed" message every time, with no clue from the software as to what caused the failure.

I've heard from Fender Tech Support, with similar suggestions, and have reported back to them that nothing has worked so far.

Best regards,
Barry

Sorry to hear the Fuse installer is being so uncooperative!

Long shot, OK, really long shot...you're not getting a window at some point about a certificate are you?

I haven't seen anything related to a certificate. The installer starts normally, gets to the "verifying" stage and then displays the "installation failed" message.

I've even gone into the "package" and tried just running the FUSE installer (without Silverlight or Mono, both of which installed successfully). Same result every time.

I looked at the log and wish I was better at interpreting what it says.
I don't know if anyone at Fender Tech Support is familiar with Mac logs but some developers I've beta tested for (recording related software) have requested them when a fellow beta tester has any issue with a given release.

Unless I find another idea or another version of the software, I guess I'll have to forego using it. Disappointing when the amp itself is so nice.

Thank you for your much appreciated ideas and support.

Barry

P.S. More thoughts:
Which was the first version of FUSE you successfully installed on your Mac and what version of OS X were you running at the time? (Were you already on 10.8?)

Hi Barry,

I've been using Fuse software for a year, and installed whatever was available from their website at the time. (Install disks, as I'm sure you are well aware, tend to be quite outdated)

I was probably running Lion 10.7.whatever, if memory serves. (And lately it doesn't! ;) )

Anyway, back to your situation...Permissions sometimes are a sticking point, and I'm wondering if this may be part or all of what you are running into.

So, if you haven't already, try the simplest thing first: Repair disk permissions. (Utilities > Disk Utility) Once that's done, give the installer a try again. If that doesn't work, well, it still could be permissions, and maybe we dig a little deeper.

Jeff

I wonder if the FUSE installer worked better with Lion.
In any event, while I'm meticulous about keeping the system clean and permissions repaired, I ran the repair again and tried once more. Same result.

This time, I sent the log file to Fender Tech Support in the hope that it might help provide a clue or two as to what is going wrong.

Thanks again.

Barry

Not that I want to brag but I am running 10.8.2 on my iMac and I have installed FUSE successfully. Sorry ! I don't have a solution to your problem but I tell you how I installed FUSE on my iMac.

I installed the version (sorry don't remember the version number) before the beta one first and I just followed the instructions on screen. The installation ask me to install SilverLight and XQuartz 2.7.2 which is X11 for Apple and it does not come with Mountain Lion by default.
Started FUSE and it worked!
I later installed the beta version of FUSE and that worked also.

So FUSE can run on the latest Mountain Lion.

Thank you.
It is good to hear of a successful install to 10.8.2.

I've tried the regular release and the beta with no luck.
The installer worked with Silverlight and the Mono framework (I already have XQuartz on the machine). It just hung with FUSE itself.

Perhaps I'll see if I can find an older version of FUSE and see if that will get me "in the door".

Barry
