I had one of the first Rockman amps ever made and if yours is the same. you'll want lots of compression in your sound. Neat amp, though...I'd clip it on my belt, plug in my guitar and my headphones and wander around my abode playing away! The downside was that I couldn't hear either the door or the phone........

These things were great, it was definitely instant Boston tone:

I used to use mine as a preamp in front of my loud full stack. I remember reading an article about how Scholz came up with the Boston sound. He said he used a wah-wah pedal and moved it until he found a sweet spot. The he isolated that setting so it would always sound like that.

Great pic, strings.....brings back fond memories. IIRC, Scholz had an engineering degree (from MIT)?? I never thought of the preamp idea...how'd it work out?

it made a decent little preamp, the only thing was the volume was limited, but with a full stack, you could get away with it.
