Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.

I just bought a Fender Mustang I amplifier a couple of days ago and I was wondering if I could make the Mustang play the effects in Guitar Rig 4. I have installed the ASIO4all driver (haven't installed the Fender ASIO driver yet, but I don't think that should be the problem) and set my Mustang as an input for Guitar Rig (by the way, I don't use anything besides the guitar and the amp, such as effects pedals or anything like that. I simply plug my guitar into the amp, and the amp is plugged into the computer via the USB interface). The problem is that Guitar Rig receives signal from my guitar, however the effects in the software do not work - whatever preset I use in Guitar Rig, it does not take effect for my amp - I only hear the preset of the amp, not of Guitar Rig.

So, does anybody know how this problem can be solved? Some of the Guitar Rig presets are really awesome, I don't want to give them up.

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

P.S.: I've seen that there is already a post which is similar to mine, but the difference in my case is that I do not have any Rig Kontrol.

Hi Mike,

I hope I understand your issue correctly - you have the Mustang output going via USB to your PC, then into GR4 (you are seeing input at GR4) but you are only hearing the normal amp tone?
A question - do you have GR4's output set to a different sound interface? i.e. you should hear it from your PC monitor speakers or whatever? I can run the amp into Amplitube, then Amplitube's output is set to my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.
As far as I know, the Mustang cannot be used as a sound output from any app on your computer - it's an input only.

Hope this helps.
Chris

ChrisHaughey is correct, the Fender Universal ASIO can only send audio to the cumputer - it can't receive audio.

To set up so that you can monitor what is being sent, go to the link below:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/fender-mustang-audio-recording-and-playback

The info is mostly correct except the first image is wrong (Audio setup). Where the image shows the "Output audio device" as Fender Universal ASIO, what should be selected there is your normal sound card...

Follow the rest of the instructions as printed and you should be good to go.

On problem - it won't work with some built in sound cards, I can't remember which one off hand but if it doesn't work, you probably have one...

After all I have read it is much better to use asio4all instead of fender asio.... Also once in guitar rig set your amp to twin reverb and kill off all the effects and go to advance settings and set the cab to "none" and it will work (idk if it is as good as a interface as I have never used one but it seems to work fine?)

Hey Mike,

Once the amp gets the signal to your computer, it's up to the software to take care of the rest. I"m not sure what's going on but it sounds like GR4 is in some sort of bypass mode. So you see any indication that GR4 is getting signal from the amp?

I agree. Or I prefer to use asio4all. Tried it before and it was simple to use. But I am not recommending it just yet.

Hello again,

Sorry for having disappeared from this area, the problem was that I have been unable to sign in to this forum because I forgot my password. And eventually I even forgot about this post...

I somehow managed to get to hear the Guitar Rig effects, but I didn't like the sound, though. And that's because the Mustang already has some in-built effects itself, that you can't completely bypass... anyway, I've discovered another cool thing: I record some guitar tracks, especially distorted ones, and use Guitar Rig as a VST effect on one of the channels (either left or right), which combined with the other channel, that uses one of the Mustang effects, gives an overall cool sound (for me).

Anyway, thank you all for the replies, although it's a little late...

Hi mike_KidLazy,

It sounds like you have things set up in a way that is working for you. I did want to mention to you that you can actually completely bypass the effects on your Fender Mustang amp. For the Mustang I/II you simply grab the Mod & Dly/Rev knobs and turn them to zero. With the Fender Mustang III-Vs, you simply press any effects that are lit (enabled) and they are bypassed.

If you want to delete a specific effect from a Preset entirely, you can use Fender FUSE software (https://fuse.fender.com) and in the Preset that is loaded on the amp, close any unwanted effects and Save. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the tip, I didn't know that :)

I am "reviving" this topic one more time, for I've got an idea and I would like to know whether it is feasible or not.

You have previously said that the effects of the Mustang I can be completely bypassed. So, does this mean that I could also use a multi-FX processor with this amp?

I mean, with the Mustang effects bypassed, can I plug the guitar into the FX processor and then, the processor into the amp's input jack?

Does this work by any chance?

Thank you in advance.

it works, but be careful how much gain your multi-FX processor is putting out. If you overload the input, it will sound terrible.

Is this related only to the sound quality, or is there any danger that I might burn something in the amp?

it won't damage anything, it would just cause distortion in your signal, but the kind of distortion you get by overloading a digital preamp's input sounds terrible
