Hi all,

I recently bought a Fender Mustang IV, I loved the fact that you can connect the amp directly to the computer and record practice/Jam sessions.

I also have a home recording studio which I normally use to record anything to Sonar X1, however I loved the fact that if I just wanted to record a JAM agains a backing track, I could just fire up the Mustang and record directly to my laptop, without having to fire up the PC, mixer, interface, setup the mic, boom stand and all the regular process at the studio, however this has been an imposibble task so far.

Any recording software (abelton, sonar, cubase, etc) recognizes the Mustang amp, audio channel (either L, R or Stereo) however, the sound comming to the amp via the AUX-IN (which I normally use to connect my Line 6 JM4 jam pedal for backing tracks) is not being streamed to the USB, in other words I can record the guitar, but not the backing track I'm playing against.

The reason I dont connect the JM4 trough the guitar signal path (Guitar input) instead of the AUX-in is because that will colour the sound of by backing track or even worst, If I'm using distortion on the mustang, the backing track will sound distorted.

So, since I'm new to this mustang amps, am I missing something to record the Aux-In signal or it is not possible to do so?

thanks in advance for any help regarding this issue

The headphone jack doubles as a "speaker emulated line out". So instead of using USB, JM4 into Aux In --> Headphone Out to soundcard. I think it should work.

That is defenitelly an option, it is just sad that we can't use the direct digital USB signal to record "everything that the speakers reproduce".

can anyone please confirm there is no way of recording Aux-In trough USB?

Thanks for the response Scorpaeon.

I am having the EXACT same issue here. Can someone please answer it? Also, my soundcard apparently isn't what I need so I had to instal an ASIO "wrapper"(?) This allows Ableton to pick up my amp. The short story here is I can't even record the drum track, then play it back in Ableton while I record the guitar track over it. Truly shooting blind when trying to record drum machine AND guitar in one song. That's a BIG flaw guys. I don't have a top of the line laptop or anything, but it isn't an pos either. Just stock. I assumed Fender was going for an "ease of connectivity" approach with these Mustangs. Well unless you dump the coin for a proper soundcard, it appears you're hooped if you want to record anything but one instrument at a time and do it all blind. :?:

Hey Hammer,

You'd like to record your drum machine and your guitar at the same time through the amp, correct? As feature packed as the amp is, the fact remains that it is a guitar amp. If you have more instruments to incorporate into your setup, you may want to consider a dedicated audio interface.

The aux input isn't passed through USB is because it comes after the USB output just before the power amp in the signal chain.

I'm not sure I completely understand your problem, but I had success with the following:

1. Import the backing track into Audacity (free software), drag and drop to create a track

2. Start a new track and record the guitar on that track

Make sure to go into options and enable to hear the backing track and the recorded track while recording.

Hi wedelthomas,

As strings10927 was mentioning, I would echo the same basic idea. Import your audio files into your DAW of choice, and play/record your amp into the DAW. This way you are not converting the audio files again either. Please check this out let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,
