I have read a couple Q&A's here looking for answers and I don't see them. When I bought my Fender Mustang III I was told I could pretty much take it home, install the Ableton and record. Well first off I will admit that I have never used any computer recording software. At the same time I bought this because I was told it was SO simple to use. IT IS NOT SO SIMPLE!!! I have downloaded the Ableton software. Started using the DISC that came with my amp in order to learn how to do all of this stuff. My disc starts out in the MIDDLE? NOT at the beginning, so I was totally lost until I figured that part out. OH YEAH...I AM STILL LOST! Easy and simple to use? FOR WHO? I get past that and start doing what the tutorial is instructing me to do... OH WAIT... REPAIR things first? I can't use it until I repair it? Didn't I just download it? REPAIR WHAT? This has been more FRUSTRATING than I can imagine it will EVER be WORTH. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Had I known I needed a degree from M.I.T. in order to use this stuff.... I would have never bought it. Just like all the supposedly free software from IK Multimedia. Great stuff it looks like.... oh but there is this one catch.... you need to buy our $100 cable in order to connect it all up to your guitar. And then to control it while you're playing you need a $300 foot pedal? What a joke! I am SO frustrated over the entire thing that if I could take this damn amp back for a full refund... I WOULD! Unfortunately I have had it too long to do that. Actually.... I like the amp. It has a lot of power and great sound. But for the headaches I have had trying to make this damn thing record something..... YOU CAN HAVE IT BACK! I am no closer to recording now than before I bought this thing. Didn't know I had to be an engineer to use this stuff. ONE GIANT HEADACHE! :x :x :? :? :? :(

I feel your pain. I'm just glad that recording wasn't the reason I bought this package. I love FUSE & my G-DEC 3, but I don't find either Amplitube or Ableton Live to be very user friendly. I have to remind myself that they were free "throw-ins" to sweeten the bundle. Fender may have been better off not including these programs, as they have disappointed many who have tried to use them. The only real disappointment across the board for me is the lack of thorough documentation for anything (amp, FUSE, Amplitube or Ableton). More time spent in providing better manuals, like Vox or Line 6, would have made many here happier with their purchase. As it is, the G-DEC 3s & Mustangs are great modeling amps, crippled by lack of good information on how to get the MOST out of them! :?

Thank goodness for this forum where we can share what we learn with each other. :)

hi Rt41,

i know how u feel, i went through almost the same.

if u allow, let me try to help you.

Its NO really difficilt, but with a lack of infos..it can turn , i agree , to a real nightmare.

First please, tell us wich operating system u use. this could help
Second :

Try this HOW to Step by step : i already posted this HOW to , but , ok, im gonna try to help you .

Downlaod the latest version, of ableton.
Download ASIO4all driver ( dont / de-install the ASIO fender driver)
FIRST IMPORTANT TO DO :
Disable the windows soundsystem : ( choose NO SOUND )
through the system management ( not with the task manager ) DISABLE WINDOWS AUDIO service
restart your computer , while starting plud your mustang to usb port and turn it on

ok after done, install ableton and close it.
ON the ASIO4all INTERFACE ( the little windows ) DISABLE ALL DEVICES except Speaker out and Mustang

start ableton ( trick one : turn down the volume :-)

On ableton go preferences choose AUDIO
Here choose please ONLY on the both field ASIO4ALL choose really only ASIO4all

if needed restart ableton .....but normally ur good to go :-))

Hey rt41,

I understand that at first it may seem like a daunting task. In my opinion, you should start with just the amp and Fender FUSE. That's where the real value is. That is what you paid for after all, right. I would become familiar with that and focus on the free, third party software later. That way, you're not overwhelmed by learning a bunch of things at once, especially if your brand new to computer recording in general.

Hi Loren, I have downloaded the Fuse software too. I see that I can put my amp controls on my screen and dial it all it on there. I also see at the Fuse Community page that I can download more presets. That is all great.....can I record with Fuse? I have enough here to deal with at the moment before I start downloading more presets and stuff. I really just want to get to the recording part. Sorry for my impatience. I am losing the use of my left hand and I want to get some stuff down while I am still able. My hand isn't going to last much longer I am afraid. I am kind of desperate at this point, as each day I lose more dexterity. Playing guitar has been therapy for me for many years. As I am losing it I am starting to panic a bit. I appreciate your input. I have been overwhelmed just downloading all the software, that I feel I won't ever learn to use. It seems quite immense. I am not the pro musician.... just a guy that wants to get some stuff down while I can. It doesn't even need to be perfect. It just needs to be me. I want to be able to record myself playing a backing track. Play it back and lay down a lead to it. I don't care about the addition of all the other instruments. Once I can no longer use my fingers I plan to take up playing slide. So I would like to lay down some backing tracks and rhythm tracks for that too, again while I still can. Like I said, I am desperate... what do I do?
ps...does Fender make Lap Steel, or other Steel guitars?

I've used/experimented with a handfull of different DAWs over the years. If you've never used recording software before there is going to be a learning curve. No way around that. But I must admit I was also left a little frustrated with Ableton (not so much the set up, just using it).

May I recommend Audacity as an alternative? Its free and fairly intuitive to figure it out once you get it set up.

I would like to thank everyone for helping me. Your input and suggestions are very much appreciated! I have tried a couple of the things suggested so far and I am making a little progress, though I really don't have a clue as to what I am doing. Likely 99% of the problem to begin with! LOL Thank you everyone!
