Can any of these settings for a Mustang 1 amp get me to sustain heaven?

Any presets that are tried and true?

Thinking Power Blues sustain-type sustain.....

Bonesaw123,

I'm not sure that any specific amp setting will help you get more sustain.

Sustain is also dependent on many other factors - factors that can't be controlled via the amp. A few general guidelines to get good sustain (at least in my experience) are:

- Play a solid body guitar with a solid (non tremolo) bridge.
- Use a humbucking pickup if you can - they are "louder" than single coils and thus provide more sustain.
- Add just enough Gain to start to overdrive your signal
- Lot's of volume helps - if you hear the signal for "longer" even though it's still decaying it can be perceived as good sustain.

Now - if you want to have an overdriven metal type sound - sustain and feedback can start to play on each other... You can use the feedback from the amp to create a sustain type effect. Also you can turn up the distortion which can help to pull more "juice" out of the note.

Lastly - if you need LOTS of sustain - as in 30 seconds or longer - get an EBow. They are great little devices and your sustain is never ending.

Hope that helps!

Matt

You can also use the stomp overdrive at a low to mid gain at a decent level to provide more sustain. On the G-DEC 3s, you can also add compression with a stomp to increase sustain. With Mustangs, it's either overdrive or compression. I would think the overdrive would work better. YMMV

No presets can be deemed tried and true. As Loren Howard says, they're just a starting point. Could you name a few artists whose sounds are similar to what you're after? Is it a clean sustain like Robert Cray's sound or more of a medium gain sound you want?

I like bluesy sustain too and use the overdrive in the post gain position. It mellows out the buzz while giving me lots of sustain.
