Please report problems / bugs in this thread.

Hi there

As I mentioned in another thread, I programmed myself a little application to change the order of presets in a FUSE backup. Thanks to the help of p90sdude, I could fix some errors and bring it to a more or less beta-state. As it seems, there is the need for such an application, I thought it would be ok to make it available to the Mustang/FUSE-community.

If you like, you can download the app here:
Horse Tamer Download

I've only tested it on my own Win7 installation, but I suppose it should work on other Win-OS too. Please consult the included help file for any hints.
Remember, this is in no way a professional application, and I will not take any responsibility for any damage produced by it. So use it at your own risk or leave it

Please report any bugs here in the forum, I might fix them if I find some time.

As stated, as soon as the functionality is included in FUSE, I will stop the development and use FUSE, my app is only a temporary solution (I hope  )

And again, thanks to p90sdude for his help in testing and documenting and the whole support!

Have fun, and don't forget to play guitar (as I should)

PS: Maybe the moderators can attach the zip file to this thread, for ease of download!

Hi there

I have just uploaded a new version of Horse Tamer, here's the changelog:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0.4.0.0 2011-05-07
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Added button for preset deletion
-Fixed bug when copying presets from backup to preset list
-Fixed alphabetical sort of preset list
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If someone has tested it, I would be happy to know the Mustang model and the OS on your Computer, as I have no idea if the application works under other OS than Win7.
Also I would like to know, if there are any features that would be useful in Horse Tamer, or if there are some bugs left (which I am sure of  )

Thanks for a little feedback
ischenitte

I like the idea of the app. I have a few questions...

What's it written in? Are there any requirements? Do you supply the source?

Do you mean, you cannot download the ZIP-File? I've just tested the download and it worked. Or what connection do you mean?

The application is written in an old version of delphi (Version 7) ... I've not used it for some years, but took it out for this app again. It seems to work also with Win7 ...

I'm not aware of any requirements in using the app, it seems to work for Win7 and XP, other OSes I haven't tested, or I have no feedback from users of other OSes.

lesbeat wrote:

If someone is interested in the delphi source, I would maybe supply the source, if he tries to bring the application further. But I use some non-standard delphi components, which I had from years ago.

Cheers

No, I have not tried it yet, but I will download and give it a shot. Note that my OS is win7 too...

Delphi, Borland's Delphi? I may have written some stuff with it a long time ago. I know it's pretty good. I wrote a lot of code using Borland's C++ Builder which is nice for GUI apps.

Thanks, I'll let you know if I have any problems or suggestions.

Yes, Borland Delphi 7 ... I haven't used it for some years, and now the company is no more Borland but Embarcadero. I'm lucky that the old version works with Win7 too, because if not, I think I would not buy a new version of Delphi just for one application.

Yeah, I heard about Borland a while back... Too bad about that cuz I loved writing Borland apps.

The app worked fine for me and I found a pleasant surprise in it and that is we can use presets that are stored on the computer as well as those on the amp. That is good because it's easier using your app to copy those to the amp than it is using Fuse, IMO, especially if you are copying multiple presets...

The one thing missing is the automatic restore without having to use Fuse, but that is because we don't have a api or other method of doing that automatically...

A problem, and this is NOT due to your app, is that whenever you do a restore, you will lose the band tracks and their settings. This is not a big problem for me, at this time, because I wrote a perl app to apply band track info to presets a while back (I posted the code in another thread). But it could be a pain if you do a lot of restores.

I'll use your app some more over the next few days and may have more feedback coming.

I like the Creative Commons licensing method. I've been a fan of CC before. Your help file is quite good.

Thanks for writing it!!

Just downloaded and Tried it on My Windows 7 PC. Works Great! Thank you so much for your work. The lack of a preset librarian has always irked me in fuse and this makes it infinitely more useful!

Great Job!

It's on one side the missing API, but also that I don't want to concure (right word?) with FUSE. As I stated, my app is only a temporary tool (I hope  ) to help organizing presets. I really believe (or hope) that Fender will include the missing functionality into FUSE, as this would streamline the hole process. If it would be easy to implement a backup / restore functionality into HorseTamer, I maybe would have done it just for laziness).

As till now I didn't use band tracks, I didn't miss it. What is it used for? If it's not that difficult functionality, I could maybe implement it into HorseTamer. Maybe you could give me a hint ...

Thanks for your comments, and hope you like the app!

A looping band track, when used like on the GDEC's, is a very good way to practice and play along with a backing track. There are a *lot* of band tracks on the fuse site that are good for continuous looping.

If you want to look at band track xml node info that would go into a preset file, the structure can be found in my perl script which is listed in this thread.

The Horse Tamer is a great example of 'self help', and addresses some of the issues with the present limited and clunky FUSE library functions, but I'm still hoping that we will get full 'explorer' type functions, and especially drag and drop, in a future version of FUSE.

Often all I want to do is swap a few presets around on the amp, rather than making wholesale changes, and drag and drop in FUSE would make that a doddle.

I'm hoping that too, that would be of course more intuitive, to have only one app to control my amp.

That's right, a good overview of the presets actually on the amp, with the ability to move them around and maybe insert a preset from the preset library would definitely boost FUSE to the next comfort level.
I really like the graphical representation of the amp and effects, it's like a my LEGO-toys in the childhood, which I loved to play with  , but some kind of preset organizer view would really help.

For me, I have now several backup sets, actually I prepare the needed presets for a gig or practice with the band in a backup with HorseTamer and then just restore the backup I want to use to the amp with FUSE. I know, in my app there is some functionality missing for more intuitive use (e.g. multiline-dragdrop), but for my use it is sufficient!

Cheers
