Hey, I picked up a mustang I just a few days ago, and I today I got to checking out FUSE, though I haven't connected my amp yet. Upon loading certain presets, I notice that the list of amp models seems to change. There are two possible lists: The first includes twelve models (most of which are seen on the amp itself, such as Super-Sonic, Metal 2000, and Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb).

The second list is much longer and comes up only if I load a preset that uses an amp model from it. It includes amps such as Garage Rock, Very Distorted, Tweed Dirt, and Acou Jumbo, to name a few.

These lists also entail different "advanced amp" options, the first set of amps seem to be more in-depth with options like Tube Sag and Cabinet, while the second list has the options "Compressor, Timbre, and Noise Gate".

I'm not sure what the difference is/ why these two different lists come up. Can anyone explain? None of the instructional material on FUSE has an explanation.

I think perhaps you are confusing amp models and presets.

Amp models are the starting point for presets. They model one of 12 more or less well known amplifiers, giving you your basic sound.

You can then modify that basic sound by adding one or more of the available effects, before or after the amp, and by tweaking the controls on the amp model itself, and saving the result as a 'preset'.

The Mustang I and II amps come with 24 presets loaded on the amp, but with FUSE you can change any of them for any other you may have created and stored on your computer. The II, IV and V come with 100 on-board presets, once again completely swappable.

Using FUSE as a 'librarian', albeit a rather clunky one, you can create and store pretty much as many presets on your computer as you like.

So, you have only 12 amp models but can create an almost infinite variety of presets, made by taking one of those 12 amp models and tweaking it.

The first set are for Mustang amps. The second type are for G-DEC 3 amps. FUSE works for both, but you must select which amp you have to see presets for your amp. Generally, I believe it defaults to G-DEC 3.

Thanks a lot for the detailed responses. So if that long list of presets is for the GDEC series, are they still usable on a Mustang?

I don't believe the Mustang amps can load GDEC preset files.

I guess the best you could do would be to try to find out all the amp and effect settings used in a GDEC preset and then try to recreate those settings using the effects and settings that are available on the Mustangs.

I think someone has already tried to do this with some of the GDEC Jeff Beck presets, and posted them in the FUSE Mustang preset download area.
