I haven't updated the fuse software for some time now. I was still running on the 1.1.3v. However, I recently went to update Fuse with the latest and greatest and any FUSE version from the 2.0 - 2.2 will not work. The install goes through fine, however, when I click the icon to start FUSE, the program does not start or I get an error message, with FUSE terminating. Ive tried going through the root folder to start it and not the desktop icon and its the same. I can re-install the 1.1.3v and it goes back to working. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem could be? Maybe my computer is a piece of @#$%.

I've just been through the wringer with getting FUSE 2.2.0 to start. Do make sure that you have Internet Explorer 7 (or higher) installed.

What error message are you getting?

JAG.. Wow, I have been reading your posts on your thread about what you have been through. Through the wringer is right. I have the latest IE 8. When I run v 1.1.3 all is good, but when I try to run any newer version like 2.2.0 FUSE will not start and nothing happens or sometimes I get the FUSE has encountered a problem and it shuts down. Most of the time though FUSE just doesnt start. When I check the task manager it shows no programs are running either. However, when I do install 2.2.0, at first I get an error message with the Removeoldfenderfuseinstalls has encountered a problem, needs to close. But right after it closes the install for FUSE keeps going and finishes.

I have all my files stored in C drive, not in Docs and settings. I think C drive is already shared by all users. Where did you find the permissions tab for the folders? Thanks

@Jake: First, everything I'm about to say is relevant only to Windows XP SP3, since that's the OS I'm using.

Here's what I would do:

Code:
(1) Make sure FUSE 2.2.0 is completely uninstalled by using the Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs approach

(2) Also uninstall Microsoft Silverlight and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.51 (or higher) in the same way

(3) Make sure Internet Explorer 7 (or higher) is able to connect to the internet with no problems

(4) In Internet Explorer, navigate to:  Tools --> Internet Options -->  Advanced

Make sure the following option under the "Security" heading is checked:

"Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"

(I'm not completely sure that this is necessary, but it probably won't do any harm.)

(5) Re-boot your machine

(6) Try to run the FUSE 2.2.0 installer (it should re-install Silverlight and the .NET Framework).  If running the installer throws an error, either you've got broader issues with your machine or else the installer file you're using is corrupted.  Download the installer file again and then re-try the install.

(the following steps assume that the installation did not throw an error)

(7) Open the Microsoft Silverlight configuration applet, either by choosing

Start --> All Programs --> Microsoft Silverlight --> Microsoft Silverlight

or else by navigating to:  <SystemDrive>\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight\<Version number folder>

and double-clicking the file "Silverlight.Configuration.exe"

Once the Silverlight configuration applet is open, click on the "Application Storage" tab, then put a check mark in the box next to "Enable application storage"

After FUSE successfully starts for the first time, you should see the following entries on that tab page:

http://www.microsoft.com/
https://fuse.fender.com/

(8) Re-boot your machine again (might not be necessary, but doesn't hurt)

(9) Try to start FUSE (while crossing your fingers!)...

I wouldn't think that you would need to change the permissions on any folders. I only had to do that because I was foolhardy enough to move my "Documents and Settings" folder from its normal location!

Good luck, man!
