I just picked up a M1 and installed the FUSE software the other day (updated the firmware in the process). I'm afraid I don't fully understand the purpose of the software so it may, or may not, be something I care to use. What would interest me would be if there were presets available that I could download to the amp and save in one of the user slots on board. Is that the case, or must I remain connected to my pc to use the features?

Also, it's not clear what "band tracks" are all about. Are these merely songs that I can connect to and play along with while connected?

While I had FUSE up and running a small window in the lower right side kept flashing green/red and indicated "connecting". I never saw any lists of anything when I went to the "web" tab. I was able to connect to the "community" while running so it was not a problem with my internet connection. Sorry for the basic questions but, although I love the amp so far, I'm just not sure the software is worth the trouble pursuing.
TIA

Don't dismiss FUSE too fast, it is a very useful bit of software that greatly expands the capacities of your amp.

If you go to the Fender Fuse web page you can download dozens of presets, and yes, they can be uploaded to your amp's 24 preset slots via FUSE, so you can use them thereafter without being connected to the PC.

As to band tracks, on the Mustang they are basically just MP3 or wav files, again available from the FUSE home page, that can be stored on your PC, browsed through FUSE's media library, and played back - via the PC, not the amp - while you jam over them. Some are fairly short 12 bar type patterns, but FUSE allows you to loop them for extended jams ! Because they are generally just MP3's or wavs, you could in fact play them with any Windows music player on the PC without needing to be connected, but you might loose the looping function that way.

When downloading either presets or band tracks from the FUSE web page, make sure you have set the amp choice (top right of the page) to Mustang, otherwise you will be downloading GDEC amp files that won't run right on the Mustang.

While the Mustang I has only 24 presets 'out of the box'', by searching on the nearby Mustang Amps forum you will find a link that will let you download the 100 presets that come with the Mustang III, all of which will run on your Mustang I !

Good luck !

Thanks much for the response. I was hoping I could do that. I'll keep plugging away with setting things up. Thanks again.

I think Fuse is Great.
#1. It gives you a lot of the abilities of the G-Dec's. I thing I did was to create a Fender folder with 2 sub folders in My Doc's/Music. 1 for Tracks and 1 for presets this makes it a lot easier to keep things seperate when you download stuff from the community. The first files I didn't do that and It was a little confusing.

#2. You can tweak your presets with more options in Fuse than you can on the amp itself. See the Advanced Amp/Basic Amp toggle in the upper Rt. just above the amp picture.

I picked up a cord for a mp3 player to run from the headphone jack on my computer to the aux in on the amp so I can listen to the tracks and amp using My headphones from the amp. It keeps my wife happy She can watch TV and I can Jam in the same room. Sweet.
