Hi, I deinstalled the old version and installed the new 2.2.0 version (from my admin account), no problems.
If I launch Fuse from my admin account the 2.2.0 version is launched and everything is fine.
If I launch Fuse (the same .exe file) from my normal user account (without admin rights), there is an older 2.0.1 version that shows up and I can see the files e.g. the presets that are in the Fender\fuse\presets folder of the normal user account - but that is weird because alle older Fuse versions are deinstalled.
Now, if I launch Fuse from the same account with a right click and "admin rights" the new 2.2.0 version shows up! But the problem is that in launching Fuse with admin rights from my normal user account the presets listed are the ones in the Fender folder from my admin account!
Loren can you explain me why this old version shows up if I launch the fuselaucher.exe form march 14th from my normal user account without admin rights and why Ican work "correctly" with an old deinstalled 2.0.1 Fuse version without admin rights and not with the one installed?
Fuse is really complicated!

Are you using an existing shortcut to launch FUSE from you non-admin account? Try creating a new one.

Why are you trying to run FUSE from so many accounts? FUSE is a simple program designed to complete a simple task. I think you're complicating things a bit.

Sorry Loren, but honestly I think that Fuse makes things complicated, not me.
As I wrote, I use in every case the fuselauncher.exe-file in the Programs/Fender/FenderFuse folder, not an old shortcut - and by the way, an old shortcut should not launch a program version 2.0.1 that has been deinstalled?
Why does Fuse show up with two different versions depending on launching the .exe-file with or without admin rights?
The reason for the "many accounts" is quite simple: as I understand Fuse needs this! I need administrative rights to install it, so I do the installation directly from my admin account. As every well advised Windows user, I then regulary work (and therefore run Fuse) from a user account without admin rights.
So the the problem would not be there if Fuse could be installed from this normal user account. I always installed it from the other admin account. Is it possible to run the install exe from the normal user account whit admin rights? I would appreciate if Fender could describe the right way to install and to use Fuse under Windows 7.

I totally agree with habbe. I have the latest version of Fuse 2.2.0.21 installed, but when I check the version from the menu is shows up as 2.0.1. I un-installed 2.0.1 before I insalled the newer version. When I pull up the program list in control panel it only shows Fuse 2.2.0.21.

I also don't see the new themes menu which is supposed to be in the latest version.

habbe is right most Windows users know they install software under an Admin account, but they should normally work in a standard account. Fuse doesn't seem to be written to work this way. It expects to run from an admin account only. This has been a problem since Fuse came out a year ago. I guess the folks at Fender don't understand Windows user accounts.

That's funny, Habbe & Freehbird. I've been working on and with Windows for over 15 years, and I've NEVER heard of needing to create a non-administrative user account to do my normal everyday activities. I always use my main administrative account for everything...much less confusing!

Indeed you don't need to do it, it's up to you to decide to what risks you want to be exposed.

Well bclarke you're apparently not well informed about Windows then. MS recommends that users not use admin accounts for everyday use for security reasons. It's a well documented topic.

Well...they say it's a good day when you learn something new. I guess it's a good day! Until now, I'd never heard of that. I did know that non-admin accounts were good for keeping kids or unauthorized co-workers out of files or programs that you didn't want them to have access to. Thanks for the update on my education. :)

Hello,

I have been a Windows Administrator for 15 years + ...

Back in the Windows XP days, everyone ran as administrator. XP did have the ability to specify alternate credentials so that a regular user account could be used, then specifying admin credentials to run or install new programs.

Nowadays, even administrative accounts have their privledges stripped. This is known as UAC and was first introduced in Vista. This results in the popups (which some people find annoying) that prompts you to confirm the action that you are taking.

I have been running FUSE on an old XP laptop (as administrator). It might help to specify which OS you are running, as their is a big difference in the way the dfferent versions of Windows work.

Hi,
I'm running Fuse under Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Yesterday I discovered the programm "RemoveOldFenderFuseInstalls.exe" in the "Prerequisites" folder of the Fuse installation path and launched it.
After that, I cannot run Fuse without admin rights from my regular user account anymore, a double click on the porgramm produces no reaction; that is no problem because initially, after the very first Fuse installation, I also had to lauch it with admin rights from my regular user account.
So the old 2.0.1 version does not pop up anymore - question b the way: why could Fuse be launched without admin rights before and why with a version that was deinstalled?
But in running Fuse from my regular user account with a right click and amin rights, the presets/audio files listed in Fuse are those in the folders of my admin account.
I want to have them in my regular user account.
So would it be a workaround, to deinstall Fuse, then reinstall it directly from the regular user account with admin rights? Will the "default" folders then be located in the regular user account?
Thank you Fender for an answer, I think this is a quite fundamental question for a lot of Windows 7 users.

Habbe,

When you initially installed, did you receive a UAC pop-up? You should be able to install the Fuse as admin by right clicking the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator", then specify admin credentials.

On Windows 7, no account actually runs as administartor with UAC enabled, the tokens get stripped by design. Unless of course you were to disable UAC completely, which Microsoft does not recommend.

Habbe this has been an issue since Fuse came out last year. Fender expects us to run the software from an admin account. I was able to run v 2.0.1 from my standard account without admin rights, and I was able to somehow make it find the presets in my standard account directory.

I uninstalled 2.0.1 and installed 2.2.0 and when I ran it under my standard account without admin rights it still showed up as 2.0.1. The new themes menu did not appear. I installed 2.2.0 under my standard account after entering the admin password, and it was not able to find my preset directory. It still expects the presets to be in the admin account folders.

When I run Fuse in my standard account with admin rights it shows up as 2.2.0.

It would be nice if Fender could address the Windows user account issue.

In Windows 7 the Admin account is not subject to the UAC, even when UAC is turned on for all other users. The Admin account runs with full admin privileges at all times and never needs your consent for elevation. For this reason it's risky to noramlly login and work under your admin account. Any app that runs as admin has full control of the computer. (Microsoft Press - Windows 7 Inside Out)

I am running Fuse on my Vista based laptop. I too install software using an account with administrator rights and run day to day on a limited user account. This is SOP for any Windows machine.

I just installed 2.2.0 the other day and I am having the same issue others are experiencing. I am seeing 2.2.0 running from my account with Administrator rights and 2.0.1 running from a limited account. I installed 2.2.0 WITHOUT removing 2.1.0.8.

NO Fender we are not trying to run Fuse in a multi-user environment!!!! We are trying to be good administrators of our own machines by using an account on our machines with more rights to administer the machine and install software and another account with limited rights to use the machine on a daily basis. This is SOP for anyone that cares anything about the security of the computer. I am frankly quite surprised at Loren's response wondering why we are using multiple accounts.

I am hoping this issue is just an oversight and not some policy that will require users to run Fuse from and administrative account...

Did some poking around and think I see where the problem is.

Keep in mind the FuseLauncher.exe is just a means to launch Fuse. The Fuse application itself is a Silverlight application.

Silverlight applications are stored in the folder structure for each user for Windows Vista.

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\local\Microsoft\Silverlight\

I just compared the Fuse folder in both accounts and 2.2.0 is there under the Admin account I used to install but 2.0.1 is the only version still there in the folder structure for the limited account.

The folder at the top in the image below is my admin account and the folder below is my limited user. Right click on the image below and chose "Open In New Tab" otherwise it will open in your current window/tab.

I am not advocating messing with the installation as it could have unexpected results...

I am not responsible if you do mess with it and break something...
