Hey, Is there anyone else here that thinks their mustang 2 sounds a lot better through the headphones or headphones out to another am or speaker...

Mine is kind of muddy from the mustang itself, but sings through the headphones and sounds amazing running out into my little solid state amp....

can someone help...do I need to change the speaker to get anything good out of it or is there something I can do....

thanks a lot

steve

Open the back and put some insulation (polyfil, etc.) in. That helps more than you'd think. It also won't void the warranty.

I tried it with the back off...it made a fuller sound but still muddy to my ears

Do you have a pic of how you would do that with the filler...

it doesn't sound safe as all the electronics could be damaged or cause a fire

I don't have a Mustang, but have done it with my Vox. I just put the insulation in a pillowcase. Also, if you haven't upgraded your firmware to ver. 1.6, do so immediately. There are lots of reports of better tone after this simple upgrade. :D

Really that good eh.. whats the 8 inch speaker ur pluggin into ?
I'm still waiting on my stinking high-end head-phones to arrive ...but...if it sounds that bad to you..order a new speaker then. I just ordered an Eminence The Wizard (not for my Mustang, but i may try it with it)... that or Eminence Governor 8 ohm might be more suited for the Mustang II to keep the bass a rockin! :)

i. Connect your AMP with the included USB cable
ii. To check your Firmware open Fender Fuse .. click on [Main Menu] -> [Help] -> (About Fender Fuse) It should show to the right the firrmware version being either 1.4, 1.5 or if your lucky 1.6.x. to the left is the Fender Fuse software version ...should be 2.0.1 for latest. Hope this helps.

Oh and to update your Firmware in case yours is not 1.6.0 ... Download the the Firmware update file.. and within Fender Fuse.. click again [Maine Menu] -> (Update firmware) and choose the second option (search for your update file) wait about 5 minutes or so for the update to complete ...follow the instructions on screen and your set to go... Dont choose the first option "Bundled" that only Flashes back to the original
Firmware...in my case was 1.4

Pack loose.

Even if it's a new amp, it won't have the latest firmware, as it's only been out a week or so, and all the amps were shipped long before that. There have been at least two firmware updates since the Mustang's release.

Have fun and enjoy your awesome new amp over the holidays! 8)

Thanks a lot...mine wasn't updated but now it is thanks....the amp i plug it into is a NUX MIGHTY 15 DFX. it sounds as good as the headphones through here.....now if fender had the mustang sounding like this it would sounds really great, and its not like my amp is a special one, just a little ss amp....I have no idea about speakers and what they sound like...If I could get one similar to my little amp it would be perfect..but also, when I plugged my little amps output and went into the mustangs guitar input, it didnt sound as good anymore...this makes me wonder if the headphones output doesn't run through some of the amps modeling circuit like maybe a speaker circuit which the headphones wouldn't need..

thanks for your help....it was -23 C today here...a little chilly on my bike

have a nice Christmas

steve

Neat the NUX is another modeling AMP... They sound good on Youtube... but the MS II
should still sound much better I think... Perhaps the speaker is at fault... can you record something or compare yours to the sound you hear on Youtube... do they sound the same...I can see headphones giving a good sound but its strange the dinky 8 inch speaker makes it sound perfect as well.

Unless your use to the sound of an open back cabinet... but I haven't tried this one w/o the back ...i dont wanna play round' w/ it....but I might try the Wizard speaker in it...once I've tried some headphones thru it and find this hidden magic your speaking of.

Is your little AMP closed back as well...maybe insulating is the trick..

That's cold ..only -3 here

Yep its a little closed back one...I played it through the guitar input and the line input on the back...it was good with both,,but the guitar input was cool because I could also adjust the amps bass mid treble and effects....

I will try putting a pillow inside too...I have listened to some on youtube and they sound better...it may be better with a lot higher volume as most tube amps do.....but it is a little muddy at lower ones...not sure..in the shop it sounded the same..Im using a tele and wondering if something like a strat would be better sounding....

I tried it without the back, although the electricity input is on the back panel so you can't just take it all the way off..but can open it like a door and hear it....it wasnt so much different...the pillow thing might be good as it could stop the boxy sound ...lets see tomorrow if I will attempt this...otherwise I will try a new speaker sometime, but dont want to buy one and have it sound the same...the nux is closed back yes....

:)

So you pulled the back off ..seen all the Tubes / Hand wiring, etc ... ........ lol J/K

Well that's good to know... Sounds about the same w/ back off. If the back come easily off the NUX ...see if its insulated... and yeah ..lemme know how it sounds with
the pillow...Hope it sounds like ur headphones :D

Oh one more thing ..if you dont mind.. can you take pictures with the back off ... I've seen one of the speaker sort of...somebody posted ..but forget if the magnet looks large
or tiny.. you dont have to..but..just wonderin

if it soudns like the headphones, it will sound like a nice tube amp....there could be more bass in it...but telecasters are known for being high strung :)

I could take a pic...what is it you are looking for exactly..do you need a close up of the back of the speaker..or name on it....

Hey

do you know anything about this amplitube...and why we get it free with this..I think what we get is only the amplitube that works with iphones, pods etc....but that software seems to sound amazing, and i think better than fender fuse

Telecaster is a perfect match with this AMP....It could just be the cheapie speaker in the Mustangs then... Like, to me..its sounds fine for the $$$...but for a 200 dollar AMP ..they had to cut corners...and of course, the speaker cant be anything fantastic.. so maybe a speaker upgrade is all it needs.....you've seemed to prove it.

Just any pic will do thnx... I'm internested in what the speaker sort of looks like...namely the magnet..and one the Guru's here should be able to help you with Amplitude/Ableton...thats stuff all greek to me. I believe Amplitude is like Fuse .. but the "Le" version bundled with your AMP is just a taste...it dont have all the models that Fuse has .. Ableton is probably one of the best track mixer/recorder but I'm to lazy to
read/learn either of them...I dont really need them myself ..but I do like the USB over ASIO for recording...if I ever get the hang of it :)
