Is there anyone out there that is really proficient with the FUSE system that can actually give step by step instructions on how to do things? The "manual" is useless! Everyone assumes that things are quite clear but they are not. This program is NOT user friendly at all. TO begin with, I am using a MacBook so "right click" means nothing to me!
I just bought my G-Dec 3 on the pretense that I could do all of this cool stuff with it. I think that if a company (Fender) is selling anything (AMP) that depends on software in order to do what it advertises then they have a responsibility to the buyer to make it possible to actually use! The questions and answers in this forum PROVES my point perfectly! People have basic questions to problems that SHOULD be clearly explained and demonstrable!!!
WHERE are the YouTube videos with actual demonstrations of proceedures? Sure, there are plenty of G-Dec videos but they are all nothings more that "Hey, look at all the cool things this Amp can do!!!" but never really showing anything?
Proposal: If anyone can give me a detailed step by step instruction on how (for example) use the SD card feature and I can actually do it, then I will make a video and post it on YouTube.com!
Any Takers?

What is it that you want to do with the sd card?...save a preset or band track, run a preset or band track from the sd card? Backup from amp to sd card?

I think we've established that I am an idiot so working with that premise let's assume that I know nothing about the G-Dec 3 amp and even less about this software that I somehow installed onto my Mac laptop. The SD card was merely an example but let's go with that.
What is the primary purpose of the SD card? Is it to extend the memory of the G-Dec 3? Is it to actually save tracks or FX from the G-Dec 3 ?Why is it when I download an MP3 track from one of those web sites and then I put the SD card into the G-Dec 3 I get nothing? You see my problem is not just the SD card issue, it's everything!
I've read the manual front to back, I've scoured this forum and others and it just seems like I can't seem to find a real solid answer on anything!
It starts with the sales pitch I saw on the Fender web site for this new amp. It ends with me actually owning one and not being able to work the damn thing as advertised. I'm sure that it's a fine piece of equipment but the instructions for it's use are crap! I am not a gadget geek and really I'm not an idiot. I just expect things to work like they are suppose to and this thing just doesn't so if you can tell me how to make this thing do what it is suppose to do then I would be very very appreciative. Sorry for dumping this stuff on you. I appreciate your offer for help, I am just a bit frustrated right now.

If I'll find an SD card, I'll try this functionality myself tonight.
If so, I'll gladly help by documenting every step and publishing it here.

Hello Purdom,

We're sorry your having such a hard time getting to know your G-DEC 3. Have you taken a look at the G-DEC 3 and Fender FUSE knowledgebase articles? There are lots of articles that explain just about every function of the amp and some tutorial videos as well.
http://fender.com/support/kb.php

Also, have you had a look at the G-DEC 3 Advanced Manual? There are some things explained there that aren't covered in the standard manual.
http://fender.com/support/article.php?kb_id=76

What specific function would you like instructions for? We're more than happy to help you figure things out.

Loren

The first thing you have to accept is the dreaded learning curve. You just have to put the time in to figure out the in's and out's.

The sd card stores presets, band tracks, and phrases (clips you recorded from a track ie intro or lead part). You can access the band tracks on the sd card by using the Quick Acces button and rotating it to scroll through the database until you get to sd card, pick the track and hit the start button. If you want to assign it to a preset, you have to save it to a preset you want with that track.

You can also access the sd card using fuse. Go to media center and find sd card. To play a track, right click, select load and you can play the track.

In fuse, while in preset mode, look for the band tab. Here you can choosed from a dropdown list of all the track and you can assign a track to the preset you are on.

Don't let the learning curve get to you, find a preset you like and a track and just jam a while and just enjoy the amp.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys for responding to my S.O.S. And I'm really sorry for sounding like such a downer. Like I said, I expect things to work intuitively and when it doesn't it ticks me off. For example, why do I have to search a knowledgebase for an article to explain something that should be basic and obvious? Or why is there even an "advanced" manual online when it isn't even mentioned in the "manual" supplied? These are issues that make me scratch my head and ask "WHY"? I'm at work right now but I'll check these "solutions" when I get home. Again, I appreciate all the responses!

Purdom...no need to apologize! Fender FUSE is one of the most "user-unfriendly" programs ever encountered!

I had a chance to try it late at night, but no time to document properly as, like many people have said, it -is- quite confusing and unintuitive.
Adding backing tracks was no problem, but the whole deal with adding presets and replacing old ones seemed quite messy.

The fact that one preset needs to be replaced in the 100 slots that exist is not only a bit fiddly - it raises up another question: "So how will I find & replace the my custom preset with the original again after I'm done? (many new users probably want to play around with the factory-presets for a while, as they have appropriate backing tracks as well..).

Anyway, I managed to download a preset as well as adding a custom backing track to it and it worked like expected. However, I really cannot explain here what & how I did - thus, there is probably a good reason for me to write that "how to" today. But first I need to figure out some sort of "best practices", so that one will have the files all organized.

Check out the thread "Inofficial FUSE Guide." and add specific questions there. :)

Thnaks for all the help. As it turns out, there was a problem with my USB socket. I had the amp replaced and it works great. I'm still trudging through the "features" and confused. One question I do have. How I link a band track I have on my SD card to presets. I did manage to get my tracks to play just fine. Do I have to download them to the amp first before I can assign presets. I did read that you actually do this the other way around, ie: assign the band tracks to the presets. Whatever. How do I do this? The idea being to be able to pick a song and have the correct presets right there, correct?
Thanks again guys!

Hey Purdom,

Glad you got the USB issue resolved. To assign a Band Track to a Preset, you simply have to press the Band Button while you're on the Preset you want, then select the file type (MIDI or WAV/MP3) and on the next screen select the audio file itself. After you've made the assignment, be sure to save the Preset so that Band Track will be permanently assigned to it.
