Okay, here we go. Apologies right off the bat if these things are covered in other topics, I'm new here and I haven't read everything yet. This is just a topic for me to lay my thoughts out, and if anyone else profits from it, all the better.

First off: PROBLEMS I HAD / ISSUES I HAVE WITH FUSE

Right off the bat, I think it needs to be much more clear that you need an updated version of Internet Explorer. I am still in the dark ages on Windows XP, and had not updated IE because I don't use it (I was on Firefox for a long time, now I'm on Chrome). It's possible I missed this information somewhere along the way (I am used to mindlessly skipping past info screens and user agreements when installing new software) but I encountered the black screen upon loading Fuse after I first installed it. I was frustrated. Some quick google-fu led me here, and to the solution to update IE. All well and good, but it might be helpful for that information to be more prominent in the installation process or manual.

Also, I then had to install Adobe Flash for IE, in order to be able to download user created presets. Again, not a huge deal, but it would have been useful to know that in advance. Perhaps I'm in a tiny minority of people who want to have nothing to do with Internet Explorer, but there might be more of us out there.

I think that takes care of my problems getting going with Fuse. As for issues with actual use, my main complaint is the built-in browser (I guess... whatever it is that navigates the presets tab)... it isn't very good at all. A "back" button would be extremely helpful so you can return to the place on the preset list where you were just browsing, instead of defaulting back to the beginning of the list. Also, I changed the layout to display more presets per page but I don't believe Fuse saved that setting, and defaulted back to 15 per page. Annoying.

Also, I can't seem to get a profile picture up in Fuse. I'm not sure if there's pixel (LxW) requirements, or file size requirements, or if profile pictures simply aren't implemented yet... anyway, everything I've tried hasn't worked. Not that big of a deal, but it might be advantageous if Fender is serious about building a thriving online network.

One last oddball complaint is that the accounts for this site and the Fuse software are different. That was kind of confusing. It would probably be a giant pain in the $@! to try and merge them at this point, as I'm sure there are already plenty of people (including me) who have both.

I think that takes care of my complaints, let's get on with THE GOOD STUFF:

For starters, I went out today and bought a Mustang I. I was looking for a bedroom practice amp, and it fits that bill to a T. The extra functionality provided by Fuse is great, I'm probably going to spend all weekend messing around with amps and effects. I like the rudiments of an online community Fender seems to be trying to build, swapping presets is a great and fast way to explore the different sounds you can achieve. So far it's a hundred bucks extremely well spent. I've already found some tones I love out of the amp, and I've barely scratched the surface.

I know this is supposed to be the good stuff, but one final nitpicky note is that I think the people utilizing Fuse should get more involved. I see presets with 50 or 100 downloads but no ratings or comments. It's my feeling that people should be more proactive in providing feedback, it would be helpful to everyone involved, but that's obviously nothing that Fender can control.

Anyway, I kind of doubt anyone read all that, but I've been dipping into the bourbon today and it's exacerbated my verbosity. Despite a few initial stumbles and some minor complaints, I love the experience so far.

Oh yeah, in case anyone cares I'm playing a Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Telecaster through my Mustang I. Love it.

Hey Rufus,

I'm glad you were able to get the software running. We'll make the IE and flash requirements more upfront in the future. Regarding the navigation, we hear you. The next update to Fender FUSE will have navigation buttons on the Community. In the meantime you can right-click on a blank section of the page and you'll see the navigation menu. I hope that helps.

Loren
