Hi,

There's plenty of requests and suggestions for improvements floating around, so I'll just throw this in here:

Software development obviously takes quite a lot of resources, and it's always difficult to decide where to put the effort. In the end, when it comes to applications that communicate with external devices, it's natural that the focus is that the application does what is intended meaning that 'extras' and the quality / usability of the UI come second.

That being said, something that could benefit Fender and its users would be a public but closed repository for at least parts of FUSE.
FUSE is not "Pro Tools" nor is it "Photoshop", meaning that it shouldn't contain larger parts of source code so sensitive that it couldn't be disclosed with a software license that still protects its integrity. And what comes to those remaining "sensitive" parts, they could be provided as libraries.

The result of this would be that people from the community could supply patches for bugfixes, inofficial patches for extra functionality that could even make it into the real deal, given that it holds a good quality and is in line with Fender's targets.

It would take some of the load from the Fender developers to focus on the Core of FUSE, and let the community steer FUSE towards what the community needs.

Just an idea. :)

That's not a bad idea at all, Pes Laul. I can see how that could make the software better. I'm going to forward this post to the people that can make this happen. Thanks for the suggestion.

Loren

Thank you for the feedback Loren, and I'm glad to hear that a rather bold suggestion like that is taken into consideration.
Every developer knows in the bottom of their heart that it's a good idea for the software itself, but that other problems might be in the way. :)

Also, something that is related to this is the "FUSE for Linux" discussion, as such a move would significantly ease the solving of Linux-support (meaning that the community would be doing most of the work...).
