Use Reaper DAW to record the Mustang amp when used with (or without) Amplitube Fender LE and other VST fx plugins

Connect the Mustang headphone out to your soundcard line-in.

In the OS, create the folders Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins (spelling -note the caps)

Install Reaper, and asio4all, or your soundcards own asio driver

http://www.reaper.fm/download.php

http://www.asio4all.com/

install Fender Amplitube LE

in Reaper

menu Options -->Preferences -->Device (select asio4all or your soundcard driver, not the Fender asio driver!)

menu Options -->Preferences -->VST (click the Add button, and browse to Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins.
Click the rescan, or Clear cache/re-scan buttons, you'll see a small window showing files zoom by as they are scanned.

In reaper, right-click in the empty area beneath the icons on the left side of the screen, and choose
insert new track

In the little track window, on the right, click the ar button, and the speaker button below it to arm them

In the top row of the track window, there are 7 icons, click the fx button, and in the browser that appears, on the list
at the left side, click VST, then select AmplitubeFender

When it appears, (you can put off registration for now) select a preset, (and a sound using the Mustangs main dial),
play, adjust the levels, and click the record button in reapers Transport panel below the Track window.

If the transport is obscured by Amplitube, right-click in the empty area on the left
of the Ampltube gui, and at the bottom of the list that appears, choose 'Dock fx window in Docker' (do it again to raise the gui again)

To record a second track along with the first one, rewind it, unarm the first track (the 'ar' is red when armed) and
right-click in the empty space below your first track, choose insert track again, and click the ar and speaker buttons, set the levels as needed,
and press record.

Whenever you stop recording, reaper asks if its a dog, so to speak, so you can delete it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For a project using a backing track, menu -->File -->New project

The menu Insert -->Insert Media File allows you to use .wav and mp3s, so create a new track, and menu --Insert -->insert media file,
rewind the media file, and arm just the speaker button!

Now create a second track, but this time to record the output of your media file, so next to the speaker button, click the 'in' button
and in the menus, choose 'record output multi-channel, and the button will read 'out'.

Next, click the i/o button in one of the tracks, and make a send or a receive between
track one and two, either is fine, 'add new send' to track two, or 'add new receive' from track one. Arm track 2, both the ar and speaker buttons.

Now add a third track for the guitar, arm the ar and speaker buttons, set your levels, and press record.

Mute and solo buttons are on the track window to vary playback options.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another option is live rendering, menu File -->Save live Output to Disk (bounce). Choose some quality options, press 'start', and you are
recording, but not using the transport features. Use the same menu item to stop your recording.

And the rest will be history!
