Just chiming in with my 2 cents worth on this issue, at least as far as Windows XP is concerned. After resolving my "Documents and Settings" folder problem (http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=53252), I was still seeing the "Loading. Please Wait" message, and then the appearance of a completely black screen. I was able to get past that black screen by following these steps:

Code:

STEP 1

Open the Microsoft Silverlight configuration applet, either by choosing

Start --> All Programs --> Microsoft Silverlight --> Microsoft Silverlight

or else by navigating to:  <SystemDrive>\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight\<Version number folder>

and double-clicking the file "Silverlight.Configuration.exe"

Once the Silverlight configuration applet is open, click on the "Application Storage" tab, then put a check mark in the box next to "Enable application storage"

After FUSE successfully starts for the first time, you should see the following entries on that tab page:

http://www.microsoft.com/
https://fuse.fender.com/

STEP 2

In Internet Explorer 7 (or higher), navigate to:  Tools --> Internet Options -->  Advanced

Make sure the following option under the "Security" heading is checked:

"Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"

(I'm not completely sure that this is necessary, but it probably won't do any harm.)

STEP 3

If you have a firewall, make sure that it's not blocking Silverlight's attempts to connect to the internet

STEP 4

Re-boot your machine.

I found that after completing these steps, FUSE 2.2.0 started right up.

Good luck, guys!

Thanks for the suggestions. Did exactly as you posted, still get the "loading, please wait" screen. Hoping Alan and crew can come up with an answer. It's got to be a setting on my computer someplace that is causing this.

Could you expand some on your point 3? I think I may have two security programs running. I subscribe to Nortons, but I believe my service provider includes MacAfee as part of the package. Maybe that would explain why it still doesn't work even with Nortons turned off?

If you have both, you should uninstall one. The McAfee is probably outdated and slowing your computer down if it was included with the computer by the manufacturer. They usually have a 60-day trial unless you pay for the year. I assume you didn't since you have Norton also. I found most A/V products have a lot of extra stuff that slows the computer down unnecessarily, and have switched to Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free and is less of a drain on your system resources than Norton or McAfee.

Just a suggestion.

The computer itself is about 3 years old, so it wouldn't be from enclosed software. I get my DSL from ATT U'verse, and according to one of their brochures, MacAfee is free and included for all users. I don't have an icon on my screen and don't see it in the Programs file so I wonder if it is not accesible by me? Probably should call their tech support line to see if they have any information.

It sounds like it's on their server, which is supposed to protect everything going through it coming to you. So, you're right, that probably isn't the issue. Also, that won't slow down your computer, since it's not running on it. You may want to verify that Norton is up-to-date, as it can bog things down and cause other issues if it's expired or not updated properly. If expired, you may want to try MSE, as it won't cost you anything, and you can always pay for Norton again if you don't like it. :)

Sorry those steps didn't work for you, valcom2. I've also posted a slightly different list of steps on the following thread:

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=54307

But those might not be effective, either.

As for Step 3--here's what I noticed yesterday when I was trying to force FUSE to get past the black screen: sllauncher.exe (that's the Silverlight executable file) kept trying to connect to the loopback address 127.0.0.1:4532, but was being blocked by ZoneAlarm, the firewall I use (the log showed thousands of blocked attempts). You just want to be sure that the Silverlight and FUSE programs aren't being blocked by your firewall.

I have noticed that while FUSE is running, Silverlight is continually attempting to connect to the internet. It keeps the ZoneAlarm System Tray icon flashing all of the time. This is rather annoying, but I suppose it's unavoidable.

As for your anti-virus programs, they should be configurable to allow sllauncher.exe to act without interference.

Hope you can get FUSE running...

Added a few minutes later:

If you get the "Loading. Please wait..." message and can't get past it or the black screen, while that screen is up, open the Windows Task Manager, choose the Processes tab and look for an entry for "sllauncher.exe". If that entry shows a varying CPU usage (not just 00), then Silverlight is trying to connect but isn't able to for some reason. That's how I first got a hint that Silverlight was being blocked. Later, I checked the ZoneAlarm log and got confirmation.

That'a a good idea. I may be able to determine what exactly is being blocked. Can't try until after work, but will definitely give it a shot. May have more input from Alan by then as well (I hope).

Just updating for those following this thread. Spent about 15 minutes tonite on the phone with Alan again and I am now up and running on Fuse. It looks like most of these Fuse issues are peculiar to the set up of each individual computer. He e-mailed me a little program to run in DOS and it fixed things right up.

For those having problems, you need to call tech support so they can deal with your individual set up issues. I have used them before, they are wonderfull to work with and have tremendous patience (I am a major klutz in regards to computers) and Alan never laughed at me once. It is frustrating when things don't go just smoothly, but these guys WILL help. Take advantage of it, it is free.

Thanks again Alan.

I had this frustration of "Please Wait" and if you are comfortable around a PC you might try this.
-First Thanks to the Fender staff they are accessible and patient.
-Second Windows after a few years of use on a hard disk is a mess of code (like a bowl of spaghetti)
-Third I noticed my IE did not load certain web pages withour error so how could I expect Fuse to run well?
-So after various attempts I have a working computer that had some IE7/8 issues and my other programs were ok on my C drive.
-I was using a spare hard disk as a backup storage in my PC so I thought I would leave C drive alone and load a fresh copy of my windows disk on D: and dedicate D to music use. Hard disks are rather cheap and it was just there not doing much.
- This works perfectly. Fresh install, no frustration, no email, Free avast antivirus, IE8 and WinXP pack3 updates, drivers I needed were on hand here so I have 2 XP systems in one desktop box.
- I know this is not for everyone but for me it ended the time waste and cost nothing to create. Everything Fuse related works fine and I love messing with the Mustang III and getting back to practicing.

Hi Pistol,

Thanks for your input and ideas. I am glad that a "fresh" OS install on a new drive worked for you. But in most cases, an OS install should not be required. It is best for the individual user to contact Fender directly. Most cases are individual issues that we can sort out with some troubleshooting on our end.

Best Regards,

Well I run XP and have had the same problems, a quick flicker then black screen with a border. Nothing I was doing worked. I read all 12 pages, soaked it in and did the following...

Unloaded Fuse
Unloaded Silverlight
Removed .net 1.0 (only one I was able to)
Installed Service Pack 3 w/reboot
Upgraded to Explorer 8 w/reboot
Downloaded & installed Silverlight latest and reboot
Reloaded Fuse 2.2.2
Crossed my fingers
Said a prayer
Lit a candle and
Killed a small chicken

It is now working like a champ
Now I am going to bed but still that's 4 hours of dinking around I will never get back (grumble, grumble). The amp sounds great and the software is sweet. Now after I roast a chicken for dinner tomorrow night I will get some more play time. Thanks for all the insight folks. I know it should work out of the box but there is such a variety in chip sets, motherboards, software configurations etc. I am not suprised that some of us have issues. Good luck to those who haven't got it working yet.
