I'm a Mac guy, so I'm way behind the curve when it comes to processors and system requirements for PC's, although I'm a bit familiar with it all.

I'm considering purchasing some used PC laptops (dirt cheap–$100 to $285) since my mac does not have an intel processor and I can't afford a new one. The PC laptop processors are a Pentium M (Centrino) 1.4GHz and 1.8GHZ. Both are running on Windows XP Professional (None mention anything about Service Pack 3). Will Fuse run on XP Professional? The one has 512MB of DDR RAM—is that enough?? The other, 1GB of DDR2 RAM which is enough I believe.

A third option has, I think a better processor, a Pentium Core 2 Duo with more DDR RAM, but is running on Vista Home Basic. Could anyone tell me if Fuse will run on Vista Home basic (again, no mention of Service Pack 3)? If Fuse will run on any of these configurations, I will head out and pick up either a new Mustang II or GDEC 3 30!! Along with one of those laptops of course!

Many thanks in advance!

Hey bluesdelux,

Fender FUSE does not require a very fast computer at all. It will also run fine on XP Home or Pro with SP3 and any version after that (Vista SP1 and Win 7). I recommend getting the fastest computer you can afford simply because you'll get more use out of it before it becomes too slow to run new software. That Core 2 Duo sounds like your best bet. 1GB of Ram is the minimum recommended for Windows now. I hope that helps.

Thanks Loren! Yes, that helps a lot! I appreciate you getting back so quickly. It's the service pack thing that confuzzles me! Is that something you install in addition to XP Home or Pro or does that already come with those operating systems? Thanks for the good advice too on getting the fastest computer.

No problem bluesdelux,

A Service Pack is basically a software update for Windows that includes bug fixes, security patches, and sometimes new features. They download automatically from Microsoft if you have Windows Update enabled.

Aaahh, I see. Learned something new today. So, if any of these laptops have outdated systems which could potentially cause issues with Fuse, I can just hit the update button to download the latest version and I'll be ready to go?

For the most part that is correct. As long as the OS is Win XP or newer.

Hey Loren, I went with the laptop (Dell Latitude D510) which had the Pentium M (Centrino) 1.8GHZ 1GB Ram, and it does have the Service Pack 3 on it. It was a steal as it's in great shape and cost $150. It was all I could afford.

Anyway, I was wondering, what's the best process to install Fuse? Should I install it from the CD which has the older version and then upgrade it to 2.0, or should I just cut right to the new 2.0 version and not worry about installing the previous version of Fuse?

Thanks!

It would be best to just install 2.0. Here's a link:

Let me know if you have any problems.
