Greetings folks

I just picked up a G-Dec 15, i also own a Cyber twin SE

I want to desperately get into home recording my own stuff, however all the information i find on the net is vague, misleading or not explained well enough for a simpleton like myself to understand.

Now i have these amps, i have a old Boss 864 that is very cumbersome,

What do you folks use?
A PC?, Tascam set up?
What is better?, what is cheaper?

Im looking for something relatively cheap, easy to use but can still get a decent recording but most importantly has some form of support out there should you have questions????...................and of course something compatible with my new G-dec

Thanks for any advice.

Hello lestatfuse,

Let me start by welcoming you to the Fender Forum.
As for what gear to buy, that depends on what you would like to do with it and what you are most comfortable with. If you are one of those people who don't like to spend lots of time in front of a computer you don't want to go with a computer based setup. You could go with a digital Tascam Digital Porta-Studio type setup but in my experience those boxes lack a lot of the editing and sound processing ability that a PC or Mac based setup would give you. If you don't plan to go too deep into editing and you only want to record ideas or don't plan on needing many tracks that may work for you. It can get as deep as your pockets and time will allow.
I would advise that you take a look at some of the recording forums on the net. I learned a lot from asking questions on them. Here's a few links.

I hope that helps.

I use SONAR Producer Edition. The Cakewalk forums are very good for support from a user community. I use MOTU 828 MKIII & MOTU Traveler for my interfaces. Have never used the GDEC for an interface as I have the MOTU's.

Before I moved to a compuer based setup I used a KORG all in one hard drive based recording unit and that was fine but once you get into a unlimited track, unlimited effects etc etc you would never want to go back.

Whatever method you use, just take your time and learn a little bit at a time. If you try to digest everything at once your head could explode. ;)

Best wishes and take care,

Bob

Hi Lance,

You're using Windows, correct? As long as the Fender ASIO Driver is installed and your amp is connected you should be able to select DEC Audio in Audacity's audio preferences window. I believe Audacity has pull downs for both the input and the output drivers.

Thanks for the question and answer Clifford. I was wondering the same thing. Unfortunately, my FUSE computer is at work where I don't have the opportunity to connect the amp that often. I mainly use it to download and tweak presets, then upload ones I create on the amp, then tweak.

Looking forward to doing some recording to the computer. Nice to know that Audacity will work. Ableton seems complicated.

for those who use Audacity what do u do for drum tracks?

Could i record the drums on my BR864, transfer it to the computer and go from there?

Is there a better way?
