AmpliTube is basically amp modeling software. The idea is that using an audio interface that contains an instrument level input, you can pass your clean guitar signal to the software, to be processed by software versions of amplifier models and effects boxes.

In this case, the Mustang functions as that audio interface. The fact that it is also a modeling amp can be a bit confusing.

If you have an outboard preamp, you should be able to use that to boost the guitar signal to a line level signal and connect that to the line input on your soundcard. You will most likely continue to experience lots of latency due to the DirectX drivers, though. You definitely want to use an ASIO driver of some sort to minimize latency.

How do I go about using ASIO drivers?

John

EDIT: I found fender ASIO drivers and it worked. The only thing is that now it seems I have a modeler going to a modeler, which doesn't really let me test drive amplitube in a meaningful way. Is there a way to just send the "raw" guitar signal to amplitube with the mustang amp?

Hey John,

There isn't really a way to disable the modeling on the amp. However, you can also use AmpliTube Fender LE with any ASIO compatible audio interface.

I have used amplitube with the guitar plugged into the jack, it works but with lots of problems, another solution is indeed to preamp all of it, and then it works fine...
With my mustang i encounter also many problems, with both ableton and amplitube...
Can't seem to get an audio output through my speakers. That is, if i use the fender driver and usb cable. in amplitube i could get it to work by preamping the signal and using ASIO4ALL.
So in my opinion, the mustang itself is one hell of an amp, but the software included is an abomination. But I will keep searching for a solution.
Grtz

I use the full version of IK Amplitube Fender. The main problem people have is they try to use their internal sound card or "on board sound card". Often they have problems such as latency, pops/clicks/static, drop outs, pulsing, lousy sound, weak signal, impedance mismatches, level problems, ASIO problems and all kinds of stuff. The way to make life easy is to use an external USB or Firewire audio interface. If ya use and external audio interface, Amplitube products work easily and very well.

Any recommendations on audio interfaces?

@ Blueser100

I can only truly recommend what I use ... and that's the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 firewire interface.

But before I bought that one ... I considered ... the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface, TC Electronic Desktop Konnekt 6 firewire interface and the Mackie Onyx Blackjack USB interface. All 3 have good preamps. What sold me on the Pro 14 was the pricing available at the time.

It's tough to decide what to buy because user reviews of most interfaces are pretty consistent ... that meaning ... each product has a mixture of great reviews and lousy reviews and there's not much to hang your hat on to differentiate. My hunch is that within a price range products are about the same with small differences in price and their free software suite being the main differences.

I'd recommend you do a little research ... and that you stay away from interfaces in which users complain about durability and drivers. I'd also stay away from interfaces that don't have at least a 1Meg ohm instrument impedance ... some have 10Meg ohms and that's fine too. Less than 1Meg ohm and you'll need a preamp to boost the signal ... which is an extra expense you don't want. You'll have to dig around in the user manual to determine what the impedance is.

Other things to keep in mind ...

An external audio interface completely bypasses your internal sound card or "on board sound card". If you use your computer to listen to CD/DVD, YouTube music etc ... you will loose all ability to add equalization if you run the signal through the external audio interface ... unless you have a way to add equalization downstream of the interface. I use an old Kenwood stereo receiver ... and I run my external audio interface signal to one channel and my sound card signal to another channel ... so I can add equalization to both via the Kenwood.

Speakers ... home stereo speakers don't cut it ... they're not a disaster ... but they do color the sound. It' best to route the signal from the external audio interface to a pair of powered monitors ... which will be MUCH clearer and color the sound MUCH less. This is something I haven't yet done due to the $$$ required. BUT ... you can get away with a good set of headphones ... which is what I do.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I successfully use a cheap usb interface I biought from ebay , around 12 quid with software disc. turns out to be a behringer interface though it don't say so on the packaging plus its cheaper than buying it as a behringer.
Disc contains asio drivers you MUST install using this particular installer as it sets up the hardware. Also contains guitar rig 2.
Works great even with onboard sound although I also have a delta 24bit card installed.
Buy one today http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=usb+guitar+interface&_sacat=See-All-Categories
