wagdog: Many have requested that, including myself and we can all just hope that it will become reality someday. :)

The good(er) news is that we should be able to pull this off with or without the help of Fender (preferrably with :) ).
I've done some decent progress on this, and I will be needing help from Mustang people as I'm focusing on the G-DEC. The differences shouldn't be big, though.
On that note, could someone send me a Mustang-preset to have a quick peek on how they look?
e-mail address is on the project site.

I'm hoping that fender will release something as they are in the business of selling hardware, not software. It can only be helpful (and valuable) to have an active software community working with their products.

Then what we'll need is a program to convert G-Dec presets to Mustang Presets ( not really serious re this as I'm aware that there are differences in included amp models, but it would be nice to have Jeff Beck presets as with the G-Dec3)

Cheers

I have already received some mustang presets, so no need to send more.
forevertheuni: Nice to see that you've registered to the project site! :)

Now I'm off to purchase some expensive software for this. :?

There has been a few, 'usbsnoop' or 'snoopyusb', but they are dated and do not seem to work anymore. 'busdog' was not up for it either.
Unfortunately there hasn't been any noise from Fender regarding this, so they will probably release all the info I need after I've bought it.
And my wife will kill me if she finds out, and if she does, no app for you. :p

I sent a message to the Linux Audio Development group to see if anyone could recommend any other tools. I also cc'd the message to Clemens Ladisch, the resident USB expert on LAD.

Fear not. As we say in the music retail business, forgiveness is easier to get than permission. :)

Good luck !

Excellent!
I'm a bit stuck creating a site for our tenant-owners' association (newly created association and we have a lot to deal with), so that our discussions will get a bit more organized..
Anyhow, that has stopped me from going ahead and buying that stuff. I'll put my hand off the trigger and wait for a couple of suggestions from you before I go for it.

Keep me posted!

I also have created some fender fuse replacement for linux. It's written in C++ and uses Qt GUI library and libusb-1.0 for communication. Both libraries are available on linux, windows and mac os x so I think you can call it cross platform. :-)
You can download sources from https://bitbucket.org/piorekf/plug/
For now it only allows to set effects but I'm working right now on setting amps. I think that it should be ready in few days.

@pes laul:
You don't need any expensive soft. You can do everything using open source software and linux. Linux can sniff USB connections so launch FUSE in virtualbox and start sniffing on linux host. I have done it this way and it works great.

Ah, so there is other work going on with this too, great! :)
My first shot was doing running XP on virtualbox and sniffing in Linux, but neither FUSE or my G-DEC worked very well. FUSE didn't start up or crashed, and the sound from the amp was stuttering (connection was shaky for some reason)..
Anyhow, that's why I resorted to doing the snooping under Windows 7, and that's when I started running out of luck after my shareware expired. :)

I guess the communication shouldn't differ too much between Mustang and G-DEC.. I'll have a look at the source and compare with the few things I have snooped.

Such is the way of Linux. lol

I'm going to look at the code he's written and see if I can get something rolling using Java and/or C#.

I have uploaded a new version of my program.
Now you can choose an amplifier which will be emulated and it's settings (also those advanced).

I also have a small request:
If somebody with Mustang II could please connect it to a computer, run a "lsusb" command and send me the result I would be really grateful.

Also please tell me what features are most important for you.

Sources available at: https://bitbucket.org/piorekf/plug/
