So I am new to this forum, and Fender in general. Heck, new to guitar as well (late bloomer 38). But I have a Mustang 3 V2 as well a MIM standard strat and I am loving them both very much! Got my Fuse all connected and fired up etc, did my research, downloaded Audacity as well the Fuse asio file.

Now as I am new to audio software and even video software...I am curious whether I will be able to "as effortlessly as possible" record myself playing over my mp3 backing track (a karaoke vid from youtube converted to mp3) via Audacity and using fuse of course to play over it.
I tried a little bit to bring up the mp3 file through fuse but it won't play or even recognize it as fuse has a specific file type (fuse.mp3 or something). So I jave resorted to playing the file through the pc (windows media player) and connecting my pc to my amp via aux. All plays well (course I haven't attempted to record yet, nor with video).

Guess I am trying to have this figured out before possibly running into problems. Thanks all.

Well during the forum post approval period, I was able to figure most of it out. Although haven't recorded video yet. Curious if it is more ideal to use fuse to both play my backing and myself during recording or if I should use audacity to run the mp3 backing while I record?
Tried option B already, works great, other than my having issues with balancing the guitar/fuse output volume vs backing track volume during recording. Becomes more obvious during playback.
Yes this is all stuff I can figure out through more trial and error. But surely I could go in with a bit of a heads up through the advice of others who have been there already.

Hi PentatonicSteel, sounds like you've got it pretty well worked out. When I decided I wanted to do something similar, I set a video camera on the tripod and ran the line out from the amp right into the video camera itself.

I, too, am just a rookie. And got started even later than 38. (About 50) Well, I suck, but if you want to see the results, you can watch the horror here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NypIaJC5z34&spfreload=10

Thanks for the reply buddy.
I guess I am just trying to "go with the flow". Most covers and leads that folks have uploaded to youtube seem to be filmed via webcam since all the recording and amp settings etc are ran through the pc.
Audio straight into camera on tripod huh?...Now that is some old school stuff man! ha

edit: Watched your video, good stuff duuuuuude. 8)

Sorry, yeah, I guess I fit the "old school" mode pretty well. Good luck with your project!

It is much more easy to use etc Reaper to record with backtrack and effects. The volume balance is much more better then audacity.

But as far as mp3, you can convert them to wav file. As I remember Fuse does not use mp3, but wav file, if I remember correct, or was it vice versa. You can anyway convert to what you wish from a youtube backtrack trough online converters. They are plenty, and very easy, just past the address in and click convert to what you wish.

I used audacity for a while, but changed to Reaper as it's better with the volume balance. Reaper is free, but they wish you to pay 60$ after 30 days, but you are not forced to do that.

As for now I use reaper, many more VST plugins, and think it's better to run backtrack direct trough reaper. Just drag what ever file, mp3 or wav file inside the track. Make a new track for guitar, and play.

Thanks for the reply.
Audacity has been great, but yes the balance between my guitar volume, recording volume, and playback volume takes some adjustments for sure. I hate the idea of editing audio after a recording, seems non authentic and fraudulent, so I just do my best to balance it through much trial and error. I may check out Reaper, but I finally got used to Audacity and still have much to learn.
As far as backing tracks, yeah I just convert youtube karoeke tracks and such to mp3s and import through Audacity.
I took a look at Reaper, downloaded, haven't installed yet, but the volume balance as you say...may just have me switching. According to online videos, the quality of recording is better due to 64bit use...?
