Due to medical reasons (which I won't go into here, because I've been posting them in the Fender Lounge area), I won't be able to do gigs for the rest of this year.

I was thinking that I could record some simple backing tracks to play along with, but then I remembered how nice the G-Dec that I demo'd at a music store last fall sounded.

It was a standard G-Dec and I'm wondering what the G-Dec 30's main differences are in user's opinions ?

I've read the specs, but would appreciate hearing from actual users what their opinions are. Thanks in advance !

Hi Mike. speedy recovery as I saw you had some medical problems in the other forum. I just got a G Dec 30 recently and of course the main difference would be 15 to 30 watts. I use it as an everyday amp and I like the fact that you can have a drum back up because I don`t belong to a band nor do I have any intensions of being in one. There are a lot of other advantages being that you can record and can overdub your own music. This amp allows you to choose between something like 17 different amps and then you can tweek the tempo on the drums as well as all the settings for your guitar. I`ve seen some negative opinions but I like the fact that I don`t have to start calling people to jam with. Have you seen the clip with Eric Johnson using the G Dec 30 ? It`s a short video that Fender has posted, check it out if you havn`t done so already. I hope this was of some help and I hope you get well soon.....

I have the original G-Dec. The 30 has a lot more. It's an expanded G-Dec 15.
It's louder, and has more effects and features.

People whine about them. They are what they are, a practice tool. I've been playing for over 40 years and I have a blast with it. I shut most of the effects off and just use the amp models.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. The volume isn't a big concern. I'm more interested in the backing sounds and yeah, the video with EJ is great.

I wish you a speedy recovery, Mike.
I recently upgraded from a G-DEC 15 to a G-DEC 30. In addition to the features mentioned above, the 30 has the ability to store midi backing tracks. The option to use a foot switch for various functions is a big plus. The G-DEC 15 got me interested in midi music. I downloaded hundreds of midi files off the 'net, found a program to edit those files (removing the guitar tracks) and now I have a small collection of my favorite tunes to play along with. I would stream them from my Mac via the M-Audio UNO into the G-DEC 15 and jam. With the 30, I can upload them to the amp and take it into another room or to a friend's house.
I like the G-DEC so much in fact, I bought a B-DEC as another tool for learning bass playing. I can use the ULT-4 foot switch for both of the DECs, and I'm working on creating midi backing tracks for that as well.

I'm hooked, I love my DECs!

Thanks for the well wishes Strat Cat, also the informative post. When I demo'd a Tele a few months ago, I played through a G-DEC and found some cool backings to play over in a very short time.

I just sold my 15 and bought a 30. The 30 has line outs and external speaker outs that the 15 doesn't. Also, their volume is independant of the speaker, so you can adjust the volume of your "stage monitor" without causing any grief iwth the sound guy.
The foot switch is a big plus.
I can save MIDI to the amp and not be tied to a computer for practice and learning new songs.
In playing with the 2 amps side by side, the -30 has a fuller, more clear sound. On the same backing track, you can hear more detail, clearly with the -30. Then there is twice the volume.

Now, I'm thinking about selling my Cyber Deluxe.

It sounds like a fine amp, but I'm looking to use for a different application. To play along with some backing tracks, rather than gig with.
