Need some help troubleshooting a strange problem. I have a GDEC 3 30 with the ULT-4 footswitch. Until recently everything worked perfectly. However, the ULT-4 now will NOT start a background track. It WILL stop a background track. All other functions of the footswitch work; and the tracks will both start and stop correctly from the buttons on the amp.

I have flashed the firmware twice to attempt a fix. The flash was successful but the problem remains. Have also tried changing the cables but no joy.

Am I correct that the amp is the likely problem? Probably a bad soldering connection on the PCB?

Dear gflavell,

Thanks for your inquiry. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your Pedal. It's pretty unusual that all functions on the Pedal work except one, it's also hard to speculate where the problem lies in the Pedal or the Amp.

If it's at all possible to get access to another pedal, audition it and see if the problem stays. If it does we can assume then at that point it is the Amp, which in that case we would suggest you locate an Authorized Service Center. I hope this helps and please let me know if i can assist you further.

Thanks,

Steven

Hi gflavell,

Our apologies for the delay in responding here. I had to speak with a couple of related engineers due to the uncommon nature of the issue that you posted. After speaking with the engineers in question, it seems that it is more likely that if the amp if fully functional without the foot switch connected, the foot switch is more likely where the issue lies. I assume that the 'Start/Stop' button functions as expected on the amp. Is that correct?

This is the first time that I have encountered a report of this specific behavior. Again, if the amp is fully functional without the foot switch connected, I would suggest that you try to get a second foot switch, even if just to test this out. Then, you should be able to determine whether or not the behavior is indeed based with the foot switch. Then we can go from there. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Alan

I will try to locate another pedal but right now I do not have another to try.

Am I correct that the pedal switch which turns the backtracks on and off is simply sending an analog signal (the same signal for ON and OFF) and that the amp is supposed to "toggle" the backtrack? Please keep in mind that the footswitch will turn the backtrack off perfectly, 100% of the time. So it would seem to me that the signal from the pedal is making it to the amp correctly, and that the amp is simply failing to toggle ON even though it will toggle OFF.

Or perhaps the pedal is supposed to sense whether the backtrack is playing or not; and it sends a different signal to the amp to turn the track off than it sends to turn the track on?

I will attempt to locate another footswitch while I await a reply

Hi gflavell,

Thanks for your post. I was mainly hoping to confirm with you that the amp's 'Start/Stop' function button is working correctly. Then, the second foot switch is an additional step. It can be a Fender® MS-4 or an ULT-4 as well.

I think that you may end up needing to get the amp/foot switch to an Authorized Service Center to get checked out, so that they can see the foot switch and amp together to more closely determine what is happening.

Anyway, for the moment, if you can confirm that the amp is fully functional standalone, and (if possible) try a second foot switch, that would be great. In answer to your question about the functionality of the foot switch, the behavior on the foot switch should match the behavior of the Start/Stop button on the amp. If it turns out that you need to head to a service center, please see the link below to locate an Authorized Service Center nearest to you.

Best Regards,

Alan
