Hey guys,
I've had my G-DEC3 30 for almost 2 years now and enjoyed it a lot.
Recently (last night) I started experimenting with the non-Fender distorted amp models and found they are extremely fizzy sounding even with the gain turned way down (almost to 0).
The Fender amp models (Tweed, Blackface and Hotrod Deluxe) don't exhibit the fizz on any channels/models (clean, dirt or drive).

I tested the amp models in question in a dry configuration (no effects, compressor off, noise gate off and timbre set on full stack).
Here are the models where I've found the problem:
British Blues
British Steel
Garage Rock
Garage Punk
Modern Crunch
Modern Metal
Modern Shred
Very Distorted

The fizz is present through the speaker and head phones but MUCH more evident through the phones.
The phones I have are a decent set of Sennheisers, not sure of the model but they sound great with my house stereo and my iPhone.

I'm running firmware 1.04, standard edition presets.
Through the years I've reset the amp to default factory condition several times and loaded all the available preset groupings (Metal, Blues, Country and Standard).
I didn't notice the fizz until recently because I stayed away from the distorted amp models (didn't care for the sound they produced).

Anyone else have this problem?
Any way to fix it?

Hi Ken,

I am sorry that you are having a bit of trouble with your Fender® G-DEC® 3. I wanted to make sure that you have all effects, particularly the STOMP effects turned off when you are doing your evaluation. If the amp is making consistent noise with all effects off, regardless of the model selected, you may want to get it checked out.

If you are the original owner and purchased from an authorized dealer, please check out the link below to locate an authorized Fender Service Center nearest to you (for North America). If you are outside of North America, please see the 'Contact' link below to get in touch with your regional Fender Service point. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan

Fender TSL,
Thanks for the response but I think I've resolved the issue to my satisfaction.
While doing the evaluation I had the master volume of the amp turned down low, 2 or 3 most of the time. After posting the original message I performed the same basic set of experiments but this time I turned the master volume up to around 5 (about as loud as I want to use in my man cave) and the tone improved dramatically though the speaker. I have to turn the headphones up quite a bit higher before the tone improves but it does.

Just out of curiosity I connected the G-DEC line out to the effects loop return on my Peavey Valveking 212 and evaluated the amp models I originally reported as having problems and didn't notice any fizz. In this configuration I had to have the line out level set to about 2.5 or 3 otherwise the output from the Peavey was too loud.

So, for now I'm satisfied there really isn't a problem with my G-DEC.

Never heard of FIZZ before, did this guy mean to say Fuzzy?

Anyway, I bought a brand new G-DEC a couple months ago, and its been great, but about 2 weeks ago I noticed presets with distortion seem to have a FUZZY sound to them, and seem to have lost mids, and some lows.

Id say this is happening more and more lately, so much that Im not sure the amp sounds good anymore, although at first I thought it was my ears, but then I compared a recording from two weeks ago and it didnt have the Fuzzy sound.

VehiCROS,
What I experienced was what I call a fizzy sound in the very high gain amp models. I believe it was due to use of head phones and the tweeter in the GDEC producing the high frequency tones that a normal guitar speaker won't. It wasn't that the tone was wrong just that I was hearing frequencies not normally heard from a guitar amp. I have the same experience with my Peavey Valveking 20 micro head and headphones. I hear high frequencies that a speaker cab doesn't produce.

When you say fuzzy that makes me think of a sort of indistinct sound, is that what you're hearing? Sort of like the tone has been corrupted somehow but you can't quite describe it, correct?

I wish I could post a sound clip of the before and after recordings, It used to be I played a chord and even with distortion it was pretty clear, but not so much anymore. Maybe it is a tweeter issue?
