I was all set to go out and by myself a SCXD but started to re-think what my needs are. I have started playing guitar again and am very much in the learning stage and thought something that would provide backing tracks etc. would be more beneficial.

I started looking and living in the UK means we pay a lot more for this stuff and the prices are as follows:

-G-DEC - £169 ($338)
-G-DEC 30 - £245 ($490)
-Line 6 Spider Jam - £269 ($518)

Buying the Fender I will also need to invest in a MIDI to USB convertor to talk my PC. That is another £30 ($60). Just to show the picture. I can see myself buying another amp down the road if it gets more serious. What are your opinions on the different amps. I know I need to go testdrive them myself. But it would be good to hear some input so I know what I am looking at.

cheers
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Realistically, You should go to a shop and test these for yourself. There is much debate about this amp (G Dec) in comparison to "regular" amps combined with pedals etc. I have the G DEC 30 and really like it. I have done the mods as suggested in this forum and i feel it has improved the sound greatly.
I have found that the better I get at playing (I'm getting back in to it as well) the less I use the backing tracks and the "band in the box" features. That being said, I also have a Hot Rod Deluxe that i love to use when I really want to get down! So all in all I do recommend the GDEC, for practice and Family gigs. I don't think I'll ever out grow the GDEC, because you need something versatile to learn new songs with. Besides if Eric Johnson uses it, it cant be all bad!

Good Luck and let us know what you decide,

Bill

Try them all out and see what you like best. Something else to consider is which one will be easier to get repaired in your area if there is a problem.

If you need a repair, Fender has a fantastic repair/replace policy. I'm not sure where the nearest authouized dealer is in the UK. I don't know anything about the Line 6 warrentee survice.

I have a CyberDeluxe I bought 6 years ago, it's still operating like new. I have the base Gdec for 4 years; it was working fine when I sold it. I replaced the Gdec with a Gdec 30. I play at a church on the weekends. the -30 gives me line outs and a foot switch that I didn't have with the base Gdec. Also, the -30 has independant volume between the line outs and the speaker; a real plus in an echo prone church.
