I recently purchased a Peavey Valveking 212 to use for larger gigs and would like to use the modeling capabilities of my G-Dec 3 30 with it.
I'm pretty sure I can connect the line out from the G-Dec to the fx return on the Peavey but I'm not sure how to adjust the output level of the G-Dec so I don't blast the entire neighborhood with my questionable playing. :)

Is it as simple and inconvenient as adjusting the line out level in the utility menu? Will the main volume control have any affect on the output to the Peavey (it doesn't have a master volume)?

A corollary question, if I decide to purchase a Mustang Floor to use in a similar manner does it have an easily adjustable line out level control? Of course part of the attraction of a floor is the ability to use it as a multi-effects pedal but it's a shame to not use it's modeling capabilities.

Thanks

Hi Wheelman359'
In the Advanced GDec3 manual on page 10, the use of the Utility menu is discussed and one of the features (GDec3-30 only) is the line level menu which is used to adjust the o/p levels.
Cheers,
Alex

I gave this a try today while I was home on my lunch hour, it worked as I thought and sounded great.

As I anticipated the main volume control on the G-Dec has no effect on the line outs. I had to adjust the level of the signal sent to the Peavey using the line out level control in the utility menu. It's a bit inconvenient but once I had activated the preset I wanted I could leave the G-Dec screen on the line out level menu and use the selector knob as a volume control.

What was really cool was running both the G-Dec and the Peavey at the same time. It added a stereo effect and produced a very full sound with added bass from the dual 12s in the Peavey cabinet. :)

Bottom line is all I had to do was plug my extra guitar cable into one of the line outs on the G-Dec and the other end into the Peavey effects return, select the preset I wanted on the G-Dec and then adjust the line out level. Simple and very effective, although there was a little hiss added by the unbalanced cable.

If I use this configuration much I'll probably end up creating presets specifically tailored to the Peavey speakers and power amp.

I plan to add a master volume control to the Peavey which will make using this setup even easier as it'll be after the effects return in the circuit. This will make it possible for me to set the G-Dec line out level to the max I'd ever use and adjust the volume on the Peavey.

Hi Ken...
What a great idea, glad it worked - good for you 8)
I run the line outs from my GDec3-30 into a Zoom R16 recorder and out into a pair of M Audio CX5 speakers and as you've found, the sound is fantastic, especially when you stand in the sweet spot where you can hear the monitors and the GDec. The stereo effects are especially nice.
I modified many of the original presets and wrote some more of my own. I warn you now that you'll spend hours and hours tinkering away... :D
cheers,
Alex
