After 25 years or so - I've decided to get back in the guitar game - figured it's a better use of time than watching reruns, right?

So - after a bunch of research - I thought the GDEC would be a great little amplifier - and how cool with all the features - the main which I was interested in was the software so I could configure my amp with different effects so I wouldn't have to start buying up a bunch of pedals.

So - I found one on Amazon (sweet - I have an account and don't have to worry about shady craigslist or eBay deals) - and it's only $100 (double sweet - no shipping either).

So - I got the thing - and it is just the G DEC and not the G DEC 3 - and it doesn't have all the functionality that I was really looking forward to. The main of which is the FUSE software. I'm assuming I can't use that with this one (which I'm guessing is older) - since there's no way to interface my computer with it (unless there's some sort of magical cord I don't know about that goes through the "MIDI In" port.

I got the MS4 stomp switch, too. Which I thought would be perfect - I'm wondering if this is compatible now, too.

I was all pumped up - and now I'm wondering if I've screwed up. My new Welch Tele doesn't get here til next Mon or so either so I can't even noodle around with the GDec yet.

Soooo - I'm taking a step back and figured I'd check with the expert users and see what you guys think. Should I go get the G DEC 3 - Should I look into a Mustang - is there another modeling amp out there that I oughta look at? Or is there some other software besides the FUSE that I should consider?

I was pretty pumped about how much I thought I was getting for $100 - and don't want to make a huge investment at this point.

Thanks!

Yes, it appears that you did screw up.

Is it possible for you to return the current G-DEC you have to Amazon ?

You can either go for a G-DEC 30 or a Mustang. I have a G-DEC 30 but I am not familiar with the Mustang amps but I believe they are compatible with Fender Fuse. Be sure to check before you buy one.

If you decide to look for another G-DEC 30, make sure you get the right model. The early G-DEC 30 does not have the USB port for connecting to your computer for using Fender Fuse and does not have an SD Card slot.

I attached a picture of both so you know what to look for.

G-DEC 30 (early model)

G-DEC 30 (late model)

Notice the top right corner of the "late model". It has the SC Card slot and the USB port. The SD Card slot is very handy as you can download many free backing tracks from the internet and put them on a standard SD Card.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

I know you can get a gdec 3 -30 for cheap, but these were discontinued by fender. It is a great little practice amp, and cool that the guitar sound presets are matched with the backing tracks that come with the unit.

But if you don't care about that, you may want to look at the mustang 2 or 3 . Look at the version 2 (normally shown as mustang III V2 ) for example. Version one had some hiss and fizz issues that V2 has fixed. ( you can't buy a v1 and upgrade to v2 ) it was a hardware issue and not fixable with firmware updates. I am just letting you know this so you don't find these things out after you buy :-)

And the fuse software is supported with latest updates, unlike the gdec series, which is no longer getting the fuse updates from what I can tell, so what you get is what you will have and no more improvements for the gdec series. Just something to consider

Thanks for the replies!

Can't return this thing - it's through an Amazon vendor and was used. The description on Amazon was really lacking. I took a shot - and lost (I should have paid closer attention since it was such a great deal). I'll have to dump it on CL or something. I'm pretty sure I can get what I paid for it though - it's really in great shape for anyone that wants something like this.

So - from what I'm hearing here - that you guys would recommend the Mustang over the G DEC 3? Like I said - I dig the idea of this software (I'm an IT guy) - and the flexibility and ability to figure out tones and stuff without having to make the outlay for hardware really intrigues me versus what we had to do 25 years ago. I like these smaller modeling deals over something else - and I like the Mustang over the Peavey model. I haven't looked at the Vox one at all - not sure if it's worth considering.

Thanks again for the scoop. Pretty cool forum here.

Hi CUJaysfan,

We are sorry to hear that you did not get quite what you were looking for. However, in regard to the foot switch, you should be fine with the MS-4. Please have a look at the linked support document below. And please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,

Alan
