Thought I would share my latest amp project...

Picked up this 'mint in box' Gdec off ebay a couple weeks ago and grabbed a
Jensen speaker and ULT4 footswitch at the same time..

Played around with it in stock form for a few days and loved it.. Really great
for a hack home player like me to jam along with, but I knew I would never
use 75% of the backing tracks that came on it.

Fender made 4 versions of the 30 watt Gdec.. Stock, Metal, Country and Blues
however they never made the Fifteen in anything but stock trim…Soooo..

I decided to make my own 'Fifteen' Blues Edition..special color and all.

One of the big pluses to the " 3 " version of this amp is the connectivity to the PC
and the ability to back up, and / or change the version that you have. The SD card
made it very easy to update the amp to the Blues Edition, I got the files here at Fender.com

Ingredients:
1 stock Fender Gdec 3 fifteen amp
1 Jensen 8 inch replacement speaker
1 can Colorbond refinisher in Ford Crystal Blue
1 empty tube of silicone
1 bag of polyfil material

(^^Note the subtle carbon fiber look is still there, Colorbond goes on thin but covers well)

Jensen (left) and original speaker (right)..

Empty silicone tube cut to 5 inch lengths fits port opening perfectly..

Here's the poly-fil I used from WalMart..

This was an easy project and I'm really happy with the end result.. I didn't A / B
sounds as I went along, but the final product sounds clearer and has a
tighter bass punch from it.. Sounds great to my ears and I guess that what counts.

If you are interested in doing something like this, DO NOT use any sort of interior dye
or paint from an auto parts store.. those paints chip easily, the product I use is
really amazing.. dries in seconds, permanent bond.. You can see the color selections here:

http://colorbondtuner.net/cchart.html

Amp was $100 still sealed (ebay), New ULT Footswitch was $52.99 (ebay), Jensen was $12 (ebay),
Colorbond dye was $14.99 (Summit racing), Poly-Fil was $3.27 (WalMart)
Total cost was $183.25 plus an hour of my time.. SO worth it ~

That is freakin' awesome turbokev! Love the color and the "hack"! Nice work. I love mods. Didn't know about Colorbond, that stuff seems like it would prove very useful! (*...gears begin to turn...*)

Hi Turbokev,

Just wanted to say thanks for posting your project on here. Fitted the port on my Gdec 3 30 with a cut down empty silicone tube and stuffed the inside with polyfil. Even though I kept the speaker stock, I think it sounds awesome with much more clarity and definition. Thanks again for the inspiration.
