I just updated my software from version 1.01 to 1.04 off the website and now every time I turn the amp on it gives me a message "Update found, press Start to update or Exit to skip". Is this normal? If not, how can I get rid of it because it is annoying. Thankshttp://forums.fender.com/posting. ... post&f=25#

Does this occur with an SD card in the slot or "naked"?
If SD is in, try restarting with it out?

If SD present have you checked the list of compatable SD brands?
I had some funny behaviour (USB connection lost intermittently) when using a name brand (but no GDEC recommended) SD card.
No problems after I bought one of their tested cards.

Good luck.

I don't have an SD card. It just seems like the version 4 update is lodged in some temporary flash memory that the amp wants to install each time I boot up. After I hit "start", it seems to get installed each time.

Maybe they store it in some sort of flash location but that would be an expensive place to put it when you have space on the HD.

Can you hook up the amp and view the hard drive contents from the computer - I'm betting that it's on the root of the drive somewhere still and it just didn't get deleted when the update occurred.
If you find it on the root or even just do a search of the drive, delete it and reboot.
(Don't forget to 'safely remove usb' device first....

Hi rpelto01,

We will be happy to assist. It seems like you have been give some great advise by martinf64 :D Normally if you copy the .upd file directly to the Fender G-DEC 3's hard drive, it normally deletes the file once you complete the firmware updating process. I would recommend that you connect your amp to you computer and place your amp in USB drive mode, so you can delete the .upd file from the Fender G-DEC 3's hard drive. Once the .upd file has been removed you should be able to power up your Fender G-DEC 3 without the firmware update notion. Please let us know how it goes and if we can assist further.
