Hi
I just picked up the G-Dec 30 & am loving it.
The unit I got was a display model at Guitar Center, San Jose; I noticed the firmware on the unit is at version 1.03.00.00. I want to delete the built in songs & add my own, thus, I am trying to update it to the most current version 1.04.00.03, but the update fails every time I try it.

I followed the step by step instructions of the updater, & get a message saying something like “Midi interface is not ready or Midi connectors are not plugged in” I check my I/O & verified the MIDI messages using MidiOx. Thus I know it’s not the computer.

I tried all of the following combinations:
Midiman 2x2 : WinXP & Mac OS X 10.5.2
M-Audio Delta 24/96: WinXP
Yamaha UX16 : WinXP & Mac OS X 10.5.2

Is there something I am missing?
Do I need to update from 1.03.00.00 to 1.03.00.03 before updating to 1.04.00.03 ?

Thanks

Make sure the MIDI Out is connected to the MIDI In on the amp , and MIDI IN is connected to MIDI Out on the amp. The update won't work if you only have the your computer connected to the amps MIDI IN.

I am positive the Midi Hookup is correct.

I can transfer patches between the computer & the amp, using the combination of G-Dec 30 patch utility & MidiOX.

Its only the firmware Update utility that fails to operate.

Thank for your help Brian.

One other thing to try is to make sure that you have the newest M-Audio drivers. The update will not work with the combination of the M-Audio devices and the generic USB MIDI windows driver. You must download and install the newest driver available from their website.

The UX16 is not supported by the G-DEC and will not work properly for updates. The list of supported MIDI Devices for the G-DEC family can be found in the downloads section.

Hope that helps,

I am aware of Yamaha UX16 not supported, but I gave it a try anyway as nothing else worked.

Yes I have confirmed the drivers were the latest, & i have made sure the the generic MIDI driver was NOT selected.

May I have access to the latest firmware version 1.04.00.03 in a .syx format so I can try to use different application like MidiOX for the update.
All the interface work & communicate with the G-DEC 30, using other applications like G-DEc patch editor & Songmaker. Its only the Firmware Updater 1.04.00.03. that fails to operate.

OR

Can I try to upgrade to prior to the latest version of firmware. (V.1.03.00.03).
If so where can i find it.

I am going to try one more MIDI interface. I will borrow the RME Fireface 400, from my workplace & try it out tonight.

Thanks again, so much for your prompt response.

I tried the RME fireface 400 & was able to successfully update the firmware.

Thanks you Brian & everybody at Fender.

Sorry you had troubles with the update process but I'm glad to see it worked with the RME interface. Enjoy,

It's funny how things go in cycles. I have a Midisport 2 x 2 that I previously used to update the B-Dec to the most current version. I had to return my original unit and just received a replacement B-Dec . I'm now having the same problem Djraag: I can play midi files thru the B-Dec, Jammer Songmaker works, and I can download files to the B-Dec. However, I am unable to complete the software update. The only change I made in my system is I upgraded to Windows XP Pro SP3. For the record, I have a red and a black midi cables so I can verify that the cables are connected to the correct ports (1 end in Midi in, 1 end in midi out). I seem to recall having to change a setting in the B-Dec to get the update to work. Any insights? Thanks

I had the same problem with a e-mu xmidi 1x1. A new driver is available at their website and it works.

I got my interface to work by switching midi ports. After that everything was smooth sailing.
