Hi... looking at picking up a G-DEC 3 Thirty. A big part of what I want to do is jam with my favorite tunes at home in a spare bedroom/music room. Petty... Springsteen... etc.

Curious to know: say I load them on the SD card. Let's say there are 100 songs. How are they organized. Can I put them in folders by band... then go into the folders and have them in alpha order?

So my question. When you drag/drop 100 mp3s onto the card, is there control over their organization? Or does the amp assign a number and arrange that way? Can anyone share any experience with that?

Thanks. These forums are a great help to us newbies.

Hi and welcome......
All mp3's (and wav) files must be in the audio folder on a SD card which has been formatted via the format utility on the GDec 3. The files are organized in the standard computer way...numbers, then alphabetically.
What I've done is assign numbers for different categories...01 for blues, 02 for Classic Rock, 03 for Mark Knopfler and so on.
So in the blues section, I would have songs titled 01-Stormy Monday, 01-Aint Superstitious etcetera.
This takes a little while to prepare, but adds some order to the tracks.
There may be better ways...I'd love to hear other ideas.
cheers,
Alex

Thanks for the reply. Your system makes sense though, as you say, is time intensive. There are programs (usually free on CNET) that you can use to batch append a prefix to a bunch of files at once. So... If you gather all your blues songs in a folder on your PC, you could then add the prefix "01_" to all of them at once. Ditto the other genres in their own folders, batch appending "02_", "03_" etc.

Move the files to the SD card, and the genres are organized by number.

Still a few steps. Would be interested in others strategy too!

Haven't had a chance to try it yet. :( Busy scanning about 200 sheets of songs with hand-written chords to PDFs. I'm going digital on sheet music and bringing everything into my iPad. Then I'll add all the songs to the SD card to jam with.

Time consuming!

Better to be busy than have too much time on your hands as my mother used to say :)
How about photographing (digitally, of course) the song sheets and bringing them in as jpeg's?
For chords and lyrics that I find on the internet I use a program called FastStone Capture to make digital copies which I then store in my Lyrics folder.
(note to self...must organize lyrics folder...it is alphabetical at this point, should be a better system!)
carry on....
A.
