While updating my new 1 day old G-DEC 3 thirty, the footswitch stopped working.
The footswitch will not light up.
I tried unplugging the switch and re connecting it. no good.
I tried unplugging and reconnecting the amp. no good.
I used the Footswitch cable to connect the guitar. That worked. So it's not the cable
I do not know what to do next.
Is there some kind of reset or restore that I can do to recover the footswitch or should I return it to the vendor and request a replacement?
Thanks
Edit: I measured 3.29 VDC at the tip of the cable to the Footswitch.

Jim,

I picked up a footswitch on line that did the same thing, good voltage at the tip etc... I took it to the local guitar store to give it a try on an amp there to verify if it was the switch not the amp that was bad. Turned out to be the switch, didn't work at the store either.

I lucked out with a fender service shop right near here in Anaheim and they took care of it super fast (thanx Fender).

Give that a shot, make sure your in the right plug in the back too, a couple there to goof up on the 30.

Let us know how it turns out.

I returned the footswitch to musician's friend.com and ordered another one. The new one has not arrived but I should get it later this week. I am sure that will solve my problem, however it begs the question of how reliable these footswitches are.

Just as an aside, can the G-Dec 3 pedal be configured to activate/deactivate stopmboxes, modulators, delay and reverb etc?

If not, what might be able to?

here's an update. I returned the footswitch as stated previously.
I received the new one today.
The new footswitch did not operate either.
I had updated the amp to the blues presets.
I am now restoring it back to the original factory settings in hopes the update did something.
Well, the update did break the amp/footswitch combination.
After a restore back to original the switch works.

Fender Tech support should look into this update issue.
Has anyone else had an issue like this?

More update:
I tried the blues package again. This time i did not have the footswitch connected during the upgrade. after it finished, the switch worked as expected. I must have done something wrong the first time.

That footswitch is pretty darn rugged. Been using it quite a while on my weekly gigs with no glitch at all. Glad you got it figured out. That can be very frustrating I know.

Hi, Just a reply to Hobbyist, re the Ult4 footswitch problem.
Being consumer electronics..

Mine stopped functioning occasional random lights so being in "the know"
0pened the box and checked it out.
There is only 1 working part in there apart from 4 switches.
This clever caterpillar chip is a powerfully small microprocessor which has a proprietry
program stored in the eeprom of the micro, even if you wanted to replace this chip
you would still have to put in the code for mapping the switches and lights to
the serial communications protocol required by the amp.
Even if you had the knowledge and the equipment it wouldn't economically stack up
to trying to fix it.
Do yourself a favour if it's out of warranty buy a new one! It's terrific I did and we pay
twice the price for stuff like that in Australia.
Remember you bought a car not a Sherman tank.

Go Fender :D
