Have seen Hal Leonard SD songbooks, and I saw a "Learnguitargear" teaser video on You Tube about backing tracks. How can I learn how to use SD card without losing current stuff?

I'm old. I don't really understand much computer stuff, but I play blues. LOVE G-DECs! (Changed my life actually), but I'd like to "end" songs - not just jump on the footswitch at the end of a loop.
Thanks in advance for any help. Jon

Jon,

The short answer is yes. You can use pretty much any mp3 or wav file on your SD card. I'm sure there must be some kind of limitations, but I haven't run across any, yet.

Here's how I do it:

- I take the SD card of my G-Dec and put it into the card reader of my computer.
- I open up a small window for the contents of the SD card.
- I open up a small window for my mp3 (or wav) files.
- I "drag and drop" the mp3 files I want into the Audio folder of the SD card.
- I put the SD card back into the G-Dec.
- I press the "Quick Access" button on my G-Dec and the files show up as "SD - MP3" (you keep pressing the "Quick Access" button to access other locations of files on the SD card or HD drive of the amp).
- I can then scroll the files on my SD card with the silver encoder know or my footswitch (in preset mode).

You can do the same thing with midi files, but they need to go into the MIDI folder of your SD card.

I know what you mean about the G-Dec being life changing. My lead playing has increased exponentially since I've had mine. Instead of improvising a lead over music in my head for a few minutes, I'm improvising with a backing band for hours!

Anyway, I hope this helps and let me (or anyone else) know if something isn't clear.

-Don

Thanks a million Hobbyist!
I think I kind of knew that you could do this kind of thing - but was reluctant to "delete" or, at least, "endanger" my existing bank of stuff!

I used to download midi presets onto my old 15Watt G-DEC (Which still has a great Texas Blues sound) but I think something went wrong with the midi cable or the G-Dec, and I didn't want to mess up again!

I then got the "old" G-DEC 30 - but was dissappointed that the "sound" on the old 15 seemed - to me - somehow better. Of course, I think I just needed to be able to crank it up. Since then I've actually done a few open mic. type "gigs" recently, and was blown away by the response (these people don't get out enough, I thought!).

There is no doubt that these machines - for someone like myself - are wonderful. I actually plug into the old G-DEC 30 and play along to the blues backing tracks on the "new" 3 Thirty.

Anyway, thanks again - keep in touch!
Jon

Jon,

You're welcome. Here are a few more things that may help you as well:

- The midi backing tracks from the original G-Dec are available to download at:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... midi-files

I put them on my SD card and jam to them occasionally.

- Here's a link to some really good blues backing tracks:

http://gc.guitarcenter.com/battleoftheb ... /index.cfm

You may like them because they have a definite beginning and end.

- The FAQ page for the G-Dec 3 is invaluable:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles. ... er-g-dec-3

Make sure you download the manual and performance notes for the G-Dec backing tracks as well. A search of "backing tracks" on this forum (and Google) is worth a shot as well.

Just for the record, I'm older, too (I'm 55). I'm playing better than I've ever played in my life.

Hi Guys,

The Fender G-DEC 3 amps are compatible with mp3, wav (standard 44.1kHz 16bit) and standard MIDI files. We have seen the occational file that is not playable on these amps. Otherwise, you should be fine with any of the three noted file types.

Did have one question, Alan. One backing track - "Slow 6 Blues in A" - only seems to last for 12 bars! Of course, I quick-accessed and looped it. This seems to be the only track like this. Is it a glitch or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon56,

It sounds like you may need to go to the Preset where the Band tack is assigned and update the Band Track so that it loops. You can use the Band settings soft key under the display to set this. Please check it out and let us know if we can assist further.

SteveInRye,

Thanks very much for the kind words, brother. I'm easily playing twice as much as I used to. I have amps with an aux input for a mp3 player, but it's so much easier and convenient to have it built it. Fender should be proud they're putting out a product that helps people of all ages become better players.
