I am looking for a practice/bedroom amp and I was thinking about the 15. I like the fact it would be great for practicing with backing tracks, and can also be used as an audio interface. More importantly, the new price tag of $99 is within my budget.

Other than wattage, is the 15 that much of a disadvantage vs. the 30? Do they function the same way, or does the 30 come with more bells and whistles? All I need is something to play late at night while the wife is sleeping and having the ability to practice lead guitar riffs over some blues backing tracks.

I'd love to hear the pros and cons of the G-Dec 3 15 vs. the G-Dec 3 30. Thanks!

Hi Rattlesnake and welcome....
I've had both the GDec 3 15 and 30; currently I have the 30 only.
I began with the 15 and it was a great amp for practicing and playing. I had to alter some of the presets, but that's part of the appeal of these amps IMHO. The ability to play along to songs from the HD, or better yet, an SDHC card is fantastic.
The reason that I traded up to the 30 was for the line out capability for recording. It's simply better than using the headphone out jack on the 15 (though the headphone out jack does work, but it's not TRS or line level controllable). The bigger speaker (10" plus tweeter) is better than the 8" in the 15, but as you state, you'll be using it late at night while your wife is sleeping, so bigger speakers and extra wattage are not an advantage here
$99 is a great price...I paid about $300 for my 15 when I bought it  , but it was a good price at the time, so I've no real regrets.
Bottom line....great little amp; go for it!
cheers,
Alex

If you know you only want this amp for late night quiet (earphone) use then yea save a few bucks and go with the 15. If you even think that you might like to jam with someone and don't want to haul out your big guns then most definitely go with the 30. The 30 is one of the best small practice amps ever made. For small jam sessions it is perfect. If you do any open mic nights or "jam with the band" type gigs, again the 30 is perfect as you can run it through the house/band PA giving you all the power and control you need without renting a semi and breaking your back. Just grab your ax, the G-Dec 30, and you are in like Flynn. If you plan on maybe sitting in the living room and playing through the speaker; then again the 30 is what you want. That little 8 inch speaker on the 15 just doesn't (IMO) cut it. The difference in sound between the 2 is huge and the extra money spent will be well worth it.
