My G-DEC 15 worked fine until yesterday when I unplugged my headphones. Now, the regular amplifier will not function. The head phones will still work, just not he actual amp.

Needless to say, this is very fustrating. I spent much of today trying to figure if I was doing something wrong, but based on the forum search here, this seems to be a common problem.

I feel like I purchased a second rate toy amp.

Yep, I've seen some posts on this "bug". I'm curious, though... It's electronic - does it make ANY difference if you unplug it for a few minutes? Usually the symptom with headphones interrupting the normal operation of ANYTHING is related to the contacts in the jack and clicking in and out a few times clears it up. The GDECs, though, seem to have a glitch in circuitry and oddly enough killing the power (via plug, NOT switch) fixes a lot of these things in other devices. Nothing to lose...

Just for the sake of argument, I have a new large TV that did similar on the remote circuit and unplugging for 5 minutes made NO difference so I was looking for repair options, yet the power going off overnight for an extended time cured it. This ain't no TV, but... Sometimes the capacitors hold a charge and require a longer time to reset.

Oh I've tried just about everything short of taking it apart. Once the Fender offices open, I will give them a call.

What poor craftsmanship on the G-DEC amps.

Hi Sentinel,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with your Fender G-DEC 3. I don't know if you have called yet today. I have not spoken to anyone about this issue today. It is likely that you may have an issue that occurred very early on with a very limited number of G-DEC 3s where audio would not be released back to the speaker after the use of headphones. This is a correctable issue.

Please send an email to the address below, with your Forum name, real name, amp serial number, phone number, address, and brief description of the issue. And I will assist you in getting the amp back in order. Thanks.

I experienced the same problem tonight with my G-DEC 30. When I unplugged my headphones, no speaker sound, but the headphones still work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Fred Sanford,

Are you saying that audio is not coming from the speaker while you have the headphones plugged in? Or are you saying that audio does not come back to the speaker when you unplug the headphones? If it is the latter, please send along an email with your Forum name, real name, amp serial number, and I will get in touch with you directly. Thanks.

I had this problem with my G-DEC 3-30 twice before and it was replaced both times. So to avoid any future problems with headphones I bought 2 Fender Frontman amps and plugged them into the left and right channels in the back of the unit and then when I want to use headphones I use one of the 1/4 inch jacks on one of the Frontman amps. I now NEVER ever use the 1/8" jack on the G-DEC.
However last week the third G-DEC went back to the shop because it won't start until the front panel becomes hot...which takes 40 minutes.
As an engineering technician my analysis is that the delayed starting issues may be caused by repeated expansion and contraction of wires which eventually need to expand with the heat to make a connection. A vent panel and/or cooling fan built into the unit should solve the problem.
But now I sit without my recording capability and wait for some word from someone as to when I will get my amplifier back...again.

Hi Nynavic,

I am sorry to hear that you have had some issues with your amps. Have you been in touch with us directly? Or are you working with a service center only at this point? Please send along an email with the related details and let us know if there is anything we can assist with. Thanks.

Hello,
I hope someone can answer/help me. When I plug in headphone on my G-DEC 3 - 15, headphones work fine, but Mainspeaker works very quietly too?
Is this correct, or must speaker be completly out?

Hi Nepti,

When you connect headphones, the speaker should mute completely. I would suggest that you try reconnecting your current headphones and perhaps try connecting a second pair. Maybe the connector on the one pair of headphones is not quite inserting all the way into the connector. Please let us know how it goes, and we can assist further as needed.

Hello and thank you for answer.
I tried different headphones, but it is always the same. The speaker still works quietly. It is not very loud, but you can hear it.

Hi loudplayer,

We did a test here to try and reproduce the behavior you are describing. We found that when the amplifier's Band and Volume knobs are set to (or near) 10, there is a minor amount of bleed through the speaker. However, the output of the headphone amp at that point is extremely loud - to the point that we would caution you not to turn the output knobs up that high in order to protect your hearing.

So, while it is possible to produce a small amount of bleed through the main speaker, the outputs have to be maxed out to do so. Please let us know if this is the experience you are having with your amp, and we can go from there. Thanks.

I have had this same problem 3 times and had the amp replaced twice and the jack repaired once with the statement that this "improved" jack will not break again. Now I have a slightly different headphone jack issue. When I plugged in my headphones the jack broke off and fell inside the amp. I've only had this amp 2 years and the headphone jack has broken 4 times???? I can only play using headphones so this is getting more than annoying. I sent an e-mail to TSL@fender.com last week and have gotten no response at all.
