New owner of a G-DEC 3 Thirty here.
I'm attempting to change the content of my DEC into the Blues Special Edition. I have the correct files loaded onto a Sandisk SDHC 8gb card, at the root level per the instructions. The DEC recognizes the card in USB mode, so everything's good there.
At first, I was having trouble getting the DEC to go into update mode via restarting, but I have now resolved that. Currently, I have the Blues tone settings and firmware updated, but the Blues band tracks are missing, and the DEC won't copy them from the SD card.
Any thoughts on a solution to this? Thanks!

I worked around it by downloading the appropriate band tracks and then laboriously uploading them to the G-DEC and attaching them to the presets indicated in the Blues Performance Notes.
Kind of a half-fast way to do it, but it worked.
Seems to me it would be easier to be able to update & load everything via USB from the beginning rather than having to use an SD card. :x It's ssslllooooowww.

Hi Strat Cat,

I'm sorry to hear that you ran into trouble with updating your Fender GDEC 3 to the Blues Special Edition. If things had gone smoothly, it should have taken about 10 minutes to complete. Please let me know if I can assist at this point in any way.

As posted on here recently, mine would only load about 1/2 the bandtracks when converting from 1 format to the other. My workaround is to reverse the directions (Why? I, nor Fender have been able to answer). What works for mine: Install the .upd file FIRST. Once that's done, try the other 2 .bin and .img and see if that works for ya. When I first go my amp I went back and forth between factory, blues and metal a few times and without starting with the .upd file, bandtracks would be missing.

To try it: remove the .img and .bin files for a moment. Put the .upd file on the sd card, reboot the amp and install it -takes only a few seconds. Delete the .upd from the sd, install the .bin and .img the same way (takes about 10 minutes) and see if that's your problem as well. My thoughts are the .upd file only brings the amp up to version 1.04 and sets the amp up to display it's scheme, but apparently my amp (as well as a few others on here) require the *related* .upd to allow the related (metal/country/blues) files to populate properly.

Successfully change a standard Gdec to a Blues successfully, but it failed(wouldn't load) when I tried to convert it to a Metal, just to try them all. Took it back, got my money back

Hi madmarcus1960,

I am sorry to hear that you had some trouble with your amp. I would have been happy to assist. And I will be happy to assist if I can help with anything in the future.

Cheers,

Alan, I am having the same problem. Any idea why? I have followed the instructions to the letter. Some 'bands' are there, others amp setting have none.

Hi duceditor,

It sounds like you and madmarcus1960 both were/are likely running into an issue with the specific SD card you are using. You may want to try a second card. Another possibility is that the three restore files that need to be present on the root level of the SD card are not there or are in a folder. We have seen a few cases where the firmware file (.upd file) needed to be loaded to the SD card first and installed. Then the user could load the other 2 files to the SD card and run the restore of the media after (.bin & .img files). Please let us know if we can assist further.

I tried to load the .upd first. But when I then wanted to add the other files I got no prompt from the g-dec. can you tell me how to overcome that and I will try it again?
