Hello,
I'm new to the forum and need some basic advice on how to ring the changes by pickup selection and tone control settings on the guitar (2006 American Standard Strat with Earvana nut) to get some of the great tones used by Fender demonstrators on YouTube. I assumed when I bought the amp that the presets being used with specific band tracks would be those that came loaded 'out of the box', as the advertising said, but I've been disappointed.
I looked at the G-DEC 3 Thirty demo by Chuck Hall on YouTube loaded by Gearwire on15 April 2010. He plays a solo over the slow blues bandtrack 61 - great tone, but I can't replicate it. Can anyone help ?
Also, I looked at the Damon Chivers demo on YouTube. Great playing on the demo at Nevada music uploaded by them 4 May 2010, but how do I get the same lead tones as he used on band tracks 61 and 66 !!
I have tried loads of combinations to get those tones but I don't have the knowledge or experience that band players have to know what settings I need to adjust to get the tone I'm after. Any advice or reference to articles by players on what settings should be used on amps and guitars tone controls for different genres would be appreciated.
Apart from my own tone control failings, I am delighted with the G-DEC 3 Thirty amp. The sounds and features are brilliant, and I haven't even looked at the Ableton Lite possibilities yet. Only had it a month.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.....
Like you, I was a bit frustrated at first with several of the GDec presets. I have a Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville (humbucker p/us) and a Fender Telecaster Nashville Deluxe (single coil p/us). For some reason, I seem to buy guitars with Nashville in their name - what's up with that?? I initially found that some of the presets sounded awful. I further found that when I modified them...turn down the amplifier gain, for example... they sounded quite good and I then went on to create my own presets as well as modifying the ones supplied by Fender.
My guess is that if you do this you will find that the tone(s) that you want will start to emerge and you can then alter the p/us and/or tone and volume controls on your guitar to further sweeten the sound.
I generally play with the GDec at volume 2 to 3 with the guitar tone at 5 to 6.
My guitars run at full volume (no tone pot on the Gretsch) and about 3/4 open tone pot on the tele. The tele has 3 p/us and a strat 5 way switch so I can get close to a strat sound as well as a tele sound from it. But..... the amp settings are crucial...bad settings, bad sound no matter what you do to the guitar.
I searched and found this thread (there are others as well) which has some good information about the FX controls:

Thanks AlexeiY,
I'll try your suggestions, I'm grateful for the fast response.
I also seem to be having a problem getting the Timbre selection box to display - I have the latest 2.6 software loaded. Could you give me a step by step instruction to get the Amp page to display with Timbre shown, please.
Thanks again
regards
Mike

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your kind words.
Unfortunately, You can't change the timbre settings via Fuse anymore...not since the upgrade from version 2.30, which is why I've never upgraded my version of Fuse from 2.30.
However, you can change the timbre setting via the GDec amp...
Select the preset of interest, then push the amp button (far left of the 4 buttons below the display window on the amp) - this gives you a new display showing the amp type.
Now toggle (pushing the button on the far right until the display window shows the timbre setting, then use the wheel to select whichever setting sounds best to you.
Save the new setting and play your guitar!
If you haven't already, I suggest that you download the advanced GDec manual - the link is available on this website - that's where I got much of the information that I needed to start modifying presets, adding band tracks and so on.
Enjoy your GDec...it's a fantastic amp as far as I'm concerned!
cheers,
Alex
